【Music Legends You Should Know】Sigurd Rascher. Trailblazing pioneer of the classical saxophone. A charismatic virtuoso performer, he inspired over 200 composers to write pieces for him, creating a huge repertoire for classical saxophone. Among his technical achievements, he extended the range of the sax from a mere 2 1/2 octaves to a dazzling 4 octaves, something previously considered impossible. He was also a great teacher, and inspired many Jazz, Blues, and R&B saxophonists. *MLYSK series: I’m sharing my thoughts on some of the incredible musicians who’ve shaped the way I hear, feel and think about music, and who I think everyone should know more about. Some are extremely famous, others deserve to be. Their music affects me on a profound level, so this is a very personal list.
