🎹 Teaching piano is not about teaching notes.
One of my students — now 8 years old — has been coming to my home studio since she was 5. She’s currently playing what she proudly calls “Moon Light Sonatina” — her title for a modified version of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata.
She’s intuitive, curious, and full of questions. She listens deeply, thinks critically, and expresses herself with such honesty — like in this poem she wrote at school about the feeling of playing piano.
“Feel the way your fingers fly like a kite across the keys without missing a beat…”
In a world where you can learn how to play piano from YouTube (yes — I’ve had beginners who came to me already trying Chopin Scherzos after watching videos!), the real role of educators isn’t just to teach technique.
It’s to inspire, influence, and nurture — to guide students toward finding their own voice and connection with music.
That’s what keeps this work meaningful. Every poem, every spark, every “Moon Light Sonatina.”

🎵Amadeus is in the house!
My 11-yo 🎹 student participated in two summer festivals in Euro 🇪🇺 this summer!
First, she was invited to perform and participate in the International Chopin Festival in Busko-Zdój, Poland 🇵🇱, for winning a prize at the XV Chopin International Piano Competition Hartford, CT, last March. Her program included Beethoven Sonata Op.14 No.1, Gnomenreigen by Liszt, Fantasie Impromputu, and Liebestraum No. 3.
Then, she took a train to Salzburg, Austria 🇦🇹 to participate in the International Summer Academy at the prestigious institution, Universität Mozarteum!
She knew that I participated in the summer academy at Mozarteum a few decades 😅 ago, so she brought back Mozart from Salzburg to my home in Brooklyn!
Welcome to NYC🗽, Mr. Mozart!

Thought of the Day: Empowering Ways to Impact and Influence Your Audience
One of the ways is to ...
🎉 CREATE A PLAYLIST AND SHARE 😎
Creating playlists holds significant power for independent artists, music educators, and concert/festival organizers alike. It's a potent tool not just for influencing and impacting your audience but also for educating them.
Take, for instance, a recent experience I had with one of my pre-teen students who dismissed classical music as boring. Instead of engaging in debate, I swiftly crafted a Spotify playlist and shared the link. This playlist was carefully curated, featuring pieces by lesser-known composers alongside obscure works by more familiar ones.
The results were astounding. Not only did this playlist captivate my student, but it resonated with their entire circle of family and friends. The feedback poured in, expressing how the playlist enriched their auditory experience. Witnessing the immediate and profound impact of this approach left me in awe.
Influence is key. Rather than dictating tastes, we must strive to influence them. As an independent artist, educator, or concert/festival organizer, you inherently possess the ability to become an influencer within your community or niche. And crafting playlists is a potent means to achieve this.
Being an influencer doesn't necessitate dancing on TikTok; it's about leveraging various avenues to shape perceptions. Playlists, in particular, wield immense influence.
Moreover, in a landscape dominated by algorithms, it's easy to feel overwhelmed. However, by strategically utilizing platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, artists can turn the tide in their favor. These platforms' algorithms reward active engagement, making playlist creation and updates crucial for enhancing visibility and reaching broader audiences.
Suppose you are a concert/festival organizer. In that case, I urge you to start creating a playlist PERIODICALLY and post the link on your website, social media accounts, and even on your email signature. People will start subscribing to your playlist, and that's a great way to attract the right people to attend your events.
Create your playlist today on any music streaming platform or YouTube! Share the link with me—I'd love to hear what's on your playlist, which is a question I ask every guest at the end of my podcast The Piano Pod, so let's keep the rhythm going!

Received another "Business Hall of Fame!"
Our 🎹 studio was recognized with the 2024 Brooklyn Award in the Education category by the Brooklyn Award Program.
And since we have been selected more than three years in a row for the award, we are again recognized as the 2024 Brooklyn Business Hall of Fame.
In the press release, it reads:
“Brooklyn Award Program Honors the Achievement
BROOKLYN April 24, 2024 -- Yukimi Song Studio LLC has been selected for the 2024 Brooklyn Award in the Education category by the Brooklyn Award Program.
Each year, the Brooklyn Award Program identifies companies that we believe have achieved exceptional marketing success in their local community and business category. These are local companies that enhance the positive image of small businesses through service to their customers and our community. These exceptional companies help make the Brooklyn area a great place to live, work and play.
Various sources of information were gathered and analyzed to choose the winners in each category. The 2024 Brooklyn Award Program focuses on quality, not quantity. Winners are determined based on the information gathered both internally by the Brooklyn Award Program and data provided by third parties.

It is so wonderful to be recognized for the hard work behind it all.
So grateful for the students/parents, friends, and community of NYC we met through music making!
Love ❤️
