In 2025, Brooklyn Law School Professor Cynthia Godsoe and her co-author Shanta Trivedi examined the growing trend of holding parents criminally liable for their children's actions, arguing that these prosecutions distract from the systemic issues of gun violence, mental health, and family support. Their article, Parenting as a Crime, challenged conventional approaches to accountability and public safety and was published in the California Law Review Online.

Godsoe and Trivedi joined the California Law Review's official podcast to continue the timely and important discussion.

Brooklyn Law School visiting Professor Margaret Ryznar brought valuable legal insight to a thought-provoking New Yorker examination of famed attorney Belle Burden’s bestselling memoir Strangers, and her high-profile divorce.

As Ryznar explained, a spouse’s earnings during a marriage often reflect the contributions of the partner who supports the family and household, while inherited wealth is treated differently in divorce proceedings. Her perspective helps unpack the complex legal and financial questions at the center of this widely discussed story.
