Congratulations to our faculty member, Dr. Laura Greer, on being featured in the article The Climate Crisis is Coming for the CEO of Family’s Health. The article focuses on the climate change issues of heat spikes, wildfires, and life-threatening flash floods and their impact on pregnant and postpartum individuals in a wave of depression and anxiety.
Dr. Greer explains that a post-climate-related event can go in two directions: a mother can be thrown into a position of social isolation in which she finds herself managing a family without appropriate access to care, or you’re highly resilient, you’ve got a lot of social support, you can kind of manage and weather, and it actually kind of makes you stronger.

Congratulations to Kyla Kiser, whose concentration is epidemiology in our MPH program, on getting her op-ed published in one of our core foundations classes, PH Leadership in Interprofessional Practice, instructed by Lori Hoepner.
The op-ed looked into the intersection of climate change, food insecurity, and health disparities in Brooklyn, highlighting how climate change exacerbates existing challenges. Brooklyn is a vibrant, diverse, and resilient community facing the unwelcome impact of climate change on food prices and access. She emphasizes the need for action to address these issues, noting the disproportionate impact on lower-income households and the exacerbation of health disparities. It calls for further research into the specific impacts of climate change on food production and distribution to better understand and mitigate these challenges, ultimately advocating for solutions to reclaim a more equitable and sustainable future for Brooklyn.
