New York is in! Today, Governor Kathy Hochul announced that New York will participate in the Federal Scholarship Tax Credit (FSTC).

“Today is a great day for Catholic education and for students across New York,” said John Notaro, Executive Director of Futures in Education. “We are deeply grateful to Governor Hochul. With New York taking part, the scholarship dollars New Yorkers give can stay right here at home, supporting students in Brooklyn and Queens.”

Beginning January 1, 2027, donors may claim a dollar-for-dollar federal tax credit of up to $1,700, or up to $3,400 for married couples filing jointly, for gifts to scholarship granting organizations like Futures in Education.

Our Saint Mark faculty spent today’s Data Day learning from one another!

📚 Ms. Ramkissoon discussed Tier 1, 2, and 3 interventions.

💻 Ms. Leone shared how AI can help teachers with lesson planning and differentiation, as well as ways to use anchor charts effectively in the classroom.

✏️ Ms. Amato shared strategies for making classroom centers meaningful and engaging.

📝 Mr. Wilson wrapped up the day with a look at the NYS exams. Teachers learned how the exams are scored and reviewed constructed-response questions from last year to better prepare their students for success.

Our students may have had the day off, but our teachers were hard at work!

Today, our 4th-8th grade students had the opportunity to see The Cross of Gratitude during morning mass. Vitaliy and his daughter Sophia came to speak about the journey of the cross and Sophia sang a beautiful rendition of Ave Maria.

The Cross is 800-pounds, 16-feet high, and is crafted of Ukrainian wood. It has been blessed by three popes: St. John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI, and Pope Francis.

Following our Back to School Mass, the Saint Mark Catholic Academy community gathered in prayer to mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. We remembered those who lost their lives, honored the courage and sacrifice of so many, and blessed our new American flag.

Students also dressed down for the day, with all proceeds benefiting the Tunnel to Towers Foundation.

We remember. We honor. We never forget.
