We are a Brooklyn preschool that blends teaching philosophies to provide stimulating experiences.

The Katmint Learning Initiative is grassroots, arts-based childcare in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. We deliver a structured, stimulating environment where children can actively participate and receive the support needed by our staff. Each experience will broaden their minds and increase the strength of their self-image, having a direct impact on their personal growth.

This post The science is clear: 90% of brain development happens before age 5. 🧠📚

The years before kindergarten aren’t just playtime, they’re the most critical window for language acquisition, emotional regulation, and cognitive growth. Children who engage in quality early education are more likely to read at grade level, graduate high school, and thrive long-term. Every book, every question, every conversation on that rug is building neural pathways that last a lifetime.

This is why we show up. This is why it matters.

Water Play some highlights from our outdoor water play! 💦 We are loving this warm weather! Our little ones splashed, blew bubbles, watered plants, and felt the water and mulch right between their toes.

Pure joy, all around. ☀️

Happy Monday to all! Last Friday we celebrated our Mother’s & all our parents who show up every single day for our little ones. A coffee & donut treat is the least we can do to honor every caregiver who makes it happen. You are seen. 🍩☕

We hope everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day Weekend!

Little voices, big energy! There is nothing like the sound of kids who actually want to be there laughing, learning, singing, just being kids. this is the environment we built and we don’t take it lightly. 🎶✨🌱

The weather is warming up and we are enjoying every bit of it! 🌤️ There’s something special about watching kids discover the world on their own terms: outside, together, fully in it. This is what play based learning is all about. 🌱

Happy Spring! New season, new lessons 🌱🌸
This month we’re learning about growth — and what better way than getting our hands in the soil? Seeds planted, water poured, and plenty of sunshine in between.

And the smiles? Absolutely unmatched. 😄
This is what learning looks like when kids are truly in their element! Curious, joyful, and having the BEST time. 🌻

Yesterday we had the opportunity to meet with Mamdani and Executive Director Emmy Liss. We thank them both for taking the time to truly listen, show compassion, and engage with our Executive Director Andre Farrell and members of 5-Borough NYC early ed coalition of providers across New York City.

Together with the 5 Borough NYCEEC, we stood united to elevate the real challenges impacting our field and the families we serve every day.

We spoke directly on the urgent need for:
• Reform before expansion
• Release of new RFPs in underserved communities
• Pay parity and livable wages for educators
• Sustained investment in community-based organizations
• Real partnership with providers already doing the work
• Protecting choice in early childhood education

This work is bigger than any one program — it’s about the future of our children, our workforce, and our communities.

Thank you to every provider across all five boroughs who continues to show up, speak out, and stand together. Your voices matter. Your work matters.
We look forward to continued conversation, collaboration, and action.
Together, we can build a stronger, more equitable early childhood system.

This day was an incredible day standing in solidarity with Pre-School and Early Education providers from across New York City. ✊🏽📚

I had the opportunity to share my story — not just as a provider, but as a parent, a community member, and someone who has dedicated over a decade to building something our neighborhood needed.

The response and feedback on the speech meant a lot. It reminded me that this fight is bigger than one program or one voice. It’s about the thousands of educators, small business owners, and families who make early childhood education possible every single day.

Our programs are the backbone of our communities. We hire locally, support families beyond the classroom, and nurture the next generation — often on the smallest margins. Yet too often, our voices go unheard.

Today we stood together to say clearly: Reform before expansion.

Please listen and hear the voices of the providers who have been doing this work for years.

and all legislators — we are asking you to work with us, not around us.

Invest in the programs that already exist. Support the educators doing the work. Strengthen the system before expanding it.

Thank you to every provider, parent, and advocate who stood together today. The solidarity was powerful. The message was clear.

Early education matters. Our voices matter. Our communities matter.
