Brooklyn Metal Works provides a collaborative setting designed to foster exploration, encourage experimentation, and strengthen the knowledge base of participating members. The studio and gallery promote the field of metalsmithing and further critical dialog among those who practice, write about and invest time and energy into the field. Two outstanding pieces by Kerianne Quick are currently on view in Here, There, and Everywhere at Brooklyn Metal Works (June 13-August 30, 2026).

“The trophy, souvenir, and heirloom are powerful craft-forms that convey important aspects of culture and its values. They tell stories – about who we are and what we care about. The impetus of my work lies in the human urge to collect, to mark occasions with tangible objects, and how these objects can act as gathering points.”

New at BKMW: Intro to Metalsmithing for Teens! ⛓️
Taught by Izadora Meares
12-week course
Sept 22 - Dec 8, 12:30-3:30pm

Designed for homeschool students at the high school level (ages 14-18), this college-style metalsmithing course introduces students to the fundamentals of metalworking through thoughtful design and technical skill development. Students will be guided through instructions to develop original ideas, and refine their designs through discussion, experimentation, and critique. 📝

Thank you to everyone - artists, instructors, students, and community members - who joined us this past Saturday for the American Craft Council National Craft Open Studios! 💍

Despite the thunderstorm, BKMW opened its doors from the morning through the evening to welcome new and familiar faces for classroom demonstrations, gallery viewing, a Tasting Course giveaway, and working studio hours, as usual! It was great to hear from folks who are a part of our studio about what inspires them and what processes are central to their practice.

ACC National Craft Open Studios were in support of Handwork 2026, a nationwide initiative to showcase the importance of the handmade throughout our history and contemporary life, presented by Craft in America. ⚒️

Today, we’re highlighting Haley Bates’ Unladen Series, which is displayed in Here, There, and Everywhere at Brooklyn Metal Works this summer. The three ladles pair hand-carved holly handles with silver bowls, creating a whimsical reinterpretation of a familiar form.

“The word “lade” refers to conveyance, movement, and the act of taking on or carrying a heavy load. In one sense, that carrying is burdensome; in another, it is nourishing. Ladles are objects of service and generosity, used to feed and sustain those around us. As such, they embody both labor and care simultaneously.
Through these works, familiar utilitarian objects become contemplative forms that consider service not simply as obligation, but as an expression of intimacy, resilience, and devotion. “

Brooklyn Metal Works will open its doors to the community to learn about studio programming and connect with jewelry artists. BKMW instructors and artists featured in the Here, There, and Everywhere exhibition will share their skills through classroom demonstrations. 🔥⚒️

We will be holding a giveaway for a spot in an upcoming Tasting Course, announcing the winner at the end of the day. 💍

National Craft Open Studios Weekend is presented by the American Craft Council and launches as part of Craft in America’s Handwork 2026 initiative. This is a first-of-its-kind, nationwide celebration inviting the public into the creative spaces of craft artists across the country. This event will offer guests a rare glimpse into the processes, tools, and inspiration that shape how handmade works are made. Today we’re highlighting artist Ashley Khirea Wahba’s work in Here, There, and Everywhere, currently on view at Brooklyn Metal Works. Wahba’s chains are made to be smooshed — on freight train tracks. The resulting flattened brass and sterling silver links hold the fine particulate and spray paint embedded by the trains, using destruction as a means to play and create.

“I mean, how are we supposed to survive right now besides rebellion? Besides acting out, and besides extreme care and love, besides oscillating between these and toeing the line? With rage and with humor and connection to the world around us. With minor crimes, with absurdity and play, says my based instincts. Absolute meticulous creation and unapologetic destruction. Obsessive, compulsive attention to detail. Up to four hours making a chain, just to throw all caution to the wind, to relinquish control.
