The studio and gallery promote the field of metalsmithing and further critical dialog among those who practice, write about and invest time and energy into the field. This Saturday! Brooklyn Metal Works is hosting Artificial Castling: A Chess Tournament with Suzanne Sullivan, Maggie Boyd, and Julia Elsas on May 30th from 1-4pm. We’ll be outside in the BKMW rooftop garden playing chess in 15-minute sessions with each of the artists — with snacks and special handmade prizes of course! ♟️

This event is part of the Brooklyn Ceramic Arts Tour (May 28-31) and we are so excited to share artworks by these three incredible artists during the tournament. We hope you’ll swing by!

Saturday, May 30 @ 1-4PM | In conjunction with Suzanne Sullivan’s solo exhibition The Wilderness of Mirrors, join us at Brooklyn Metal Works for a chess tournament celebrating stealth, strategy, and subterfuge. Ceramicists Maggie Boyd and Julia Elsas will join Sullivan in this collaborative event, each creating a handmade chessboard that will be set up for gameplay. This event is free and open to the public with a suggested donation of $5-10.

Mixed Media Jewelry: Techniques & Experimentation
One Day Workshop | April 4, 11:00am-6:00pm
Taught by

This workshop introduces techniques for combining metal with non-metal materials such as wood, acrylic, fabric, and ceramic. Students will learn cold connection methods, tab settings, and approaches for using adhesives effectively, along with material-specific guidance for drilling, cutting, and surface preparation. Through demonstrations and hands-on experimentation, participants will practice these techniques and explore how different materials interact with metal.

Drawing and Painting with Enamel with Rebekah Laskin | March 31 - May 5

Explore various enameling techniques in a spontaneous, expressive, and innovative way. Students of all levels will learn basic application and controlled firing of enamel on metal as well as use of underglaze pencils and oxides, fine mesh sifting, stencils, and foils to achieve unique imagery and surfaces.
