The suffix -s may have two meanings.
1. The -s indicates that the word is an action verb as in “My mom shops.”
2. The -s indicates that the word is plural as in, “Look at all the shops!” Reading

So here is a list of VCE words. VCE stands for vowel-consonant-e. Students mark up the words on the list to indicate which sound the vowel makes. Putting the list on a pretty background is optional, but it definitely makes the task feel less like a chore ❤️😄. Hope you all have an amazing weekend! 🌟🌟🌟

Today we practiced VCE words, a.k.a “Magic E.”
Every vowel has a short and long sound. When a vowel is followed by a consonant and an “e,” the vowel is pronounced with its long sound. The long sound is the name of the vowel itself.
There is one exception, and that is the letter “u.” The “u״ has two long sounds. “U” as in “cute,” and also the half “u” as in the word “rule.”

Can we please take a minute to process- I made another thing in Google Slides! I am still a bit shocked myself. This student needed help remembering the “r” controlled vowel sounds and she had fun playing this game! By the time we got to the end, she was remembering every sound. And that my friends, is why we do what we do.

Prefixes and suffixes add meaning to the root word. Being aware of prefixes, roots, and suffixes makes words easier to decode and spell.

I finally feel like I may be getting the hang of this. The first week of online teaching terrified me. The second week had a ridiculous amount of glitches. Today went semi-ok and that is worth celebrating!
