What does scaffolding look like at PB&Jam? All songs are hand-arranged by your coach, Sarah, and parts are adjusted for the skill levels of each band member. You'll often see multiple "levels" so that the song is accessible to play for the beginner and challenging for a more experienced player.
Students will learn to read tabs, sheet music, and chord sheets. Here's an example of what the Led Zeppelin song, "Dazed and Confused" looks like scaffolded for guitar!

Jenny taking center stage to lead her chosen song, Mangetout! Nadia picked up the bass for the first time ever for this song and Lindsey is rocking the electric guitar. This was such a fun song to play.

Piano is always on everyone's radar, but why?
Finger/limb independence is a skill required to play any instrument and piano uses all 5 fingers of each hand and can also use both feet. We also learn how to read both treble and bass clefs when usually instruments use only one or the other.

Meet Sarah, multi-instrumentalist and certified music teacher with over 20 years of experience teaching. Facilitator of Junior Jam classes and PB&Jam Rock Band.
Sarah began learning piano at the age of 5 and the learning of new instruments never stopped! She now regularly plays and teaches piano, guitar, ukulele, bass, and percussion. Sarah primarily performs nowadays on the handpan and goes by .
Sarah received her BM in Music Education from NYU and MA in Music Education from Columbia Teachers College. She taught music in NYC public schools before transitioning to private lessons and classes.
In her teaching, Sarah strives for a balance between technique and application -- healthy playing while helping students achieve their personal musical goals. From classical piano to folk guitar to songwriting to rock and roll, Sarah believes that playing the music you love will make you a better musician. Above all, Sarah wants students to love music and love making music.
