I teach interactive online art classes to kids 8 to 13. Hello and welcome to my page! I am Tammy Whelan. You can call me Tammy or Ms. I am a passionate teacher with over 20 years of teaching and tutoring experience. My degrees are in Psychology, but I am also a certified and registered member of the National Tutoring Association and Yoga Alliance and training in Arts in Health and SEL*F. I grew up

with a pencil and sketchbook in hand. I wrapped myself around anything art-related. Sketching was a way to wander between two worlds, discovering their adventures, and uncover their secrets. It's an adventure that I want to share with my students.

I am an educator who LOVES alternative approaches to learning. I am an art teacher who LOVES sketching basic shapes;
I am a writing teacher who LOVES breaking the rules to give freedom to express one's inner thoughts;
I am a yoga teacher who LOVES mindful movements;
I am a teacher who loves to learn. I LOVE what I do! My passion revolves around moving a fixed mindset that limits the potential to a growth mindset, which encourages effort and perseverance. When I teach art, it is the process rather than a finished product. I believe every child is unique, so I try to connect students to their potential through smaller classroom sizes. I try to adapt to each student's learning style, schedule, and needs to make a collaborative classroom. At the end of each class, I hope they feel good about what they've created. From my perspective, both art and writing are incredibly therapeutic and as important as other courses. They give you a chance to become both the explorer and your curator. It is why I desire to use my experience to create a learning atmosphere where each student can grow at their own pace, acquire a higher level of learning skills, and help pave the way to reach their full potentials. Most of my classes will push your child to think beyond what is in front of them while providing a safe learning environment that will meet each student's levels, sharing ideas without being afraid of making mistakes. I look forward to meeting your children in my class. So excited for them to start a new journey!
