PS 889 What we learn with joy, we never forget. Direct instruction using the workshop approach in foundational literacy and math is equally prominent in our program.

Vision and Mission

At PS 889, we provide an educational experience that is both rigorous and joyful, and designed to ignite the gifts and talents in every child, every day. The use of the school enrichment model will foster enjoyment, engagement and enthusiasm for learning as our students participate in theme-based units of study that incorporate the arts, music, and movement and experiences work

ing with experts connected to the theme to make learning relevant and authentic. Through the collaborative effort of dedicated teachers and engaged families, our students will be equipped with the content knowledge, critical thinking skills and timeless values necessary to be productive members of our school community and their communities at-large.

Superintendent Julia Bove and PS 889's Principal M. Lucy Militello welcomed Dr. Kara Ahmed, Deputy Chancellor of Early Childhood Education (ECE), Peggy Diercks, Chief Executive of ECE Learning and Partnerships, Rita Joseph , NYC Council Member & Mark Treyger, Executive Director of Intergovernmental Affairs, to celebrate great early childhood classes. Judy Brandwein, SEL Social worker, was given a spotlight for her supporting students' social and academic learning along with all of our social workers. New York City Public Schools
