I love to see the people in my life win. I’m not threatened by their success. I’m not jealous of their success. I’m encouraged by their success. As a leader, sometimes we think we always need to be in the forefront. Sometimes, we think we are in competition with others in this work. However, the best leaders make space for others to shine. In fact, they equip them to do just that. We can all be stars. In fact, the biggest star of them all, lends its brilliance to the moon.

Love is sacrifice. If we love our students, we would be willing to sacrifice our time to be excellent for them. Yes, we must take care of ourselves and ensure that we fill our cups and put on our oxygen masks. However, we fill our cups in order to pour, we put on our oxygen masks so that others around us can breathe too. Love is not self-indulgent. Love is sacrifice.

Every time we turn around, there is news of violence, hatred and injustice. It’s exhausting. Yet, we cannot ignore it, no matter how hard we try. I choose to dig my heels in this very important work.

So many of us are still searching for a real love. Not just in our personal lives, but also in our workplace. Yes, love belongs in the workplace and you should not lead without it, whether you lead a classroom, a team, a grade or a whole school. But don’t get it twisted, love isn’t soft and it certainly isn’t permissive. Love is hardcore and it requires work, including work on yourself. More to come!

As leaders, we cannot divest ourselves of our power nor can we ignore it. No, we must leverage it with love to not just bring about change, but be the change that we want to see in our homes, our schools and our world.

I heard God saying to me that this year is a year of growth. Bigger. Better. Bolder. No more shrinking. It’s my season to shine! What inSpired message will you be holding on to this year? I created my board with my girl and some young people (a great activity for students and youth groups). is an educational leader, Reverend and fashionista and I look forward to seeing her vision come to life…. What’s on your vision board? What words keep resounding in your head and heart? What images represent your optimal future self? You can look through magazines and cut out images, words and phrases that stand out to you or just write them yourself. Keep your board visible if possible or in reach and revisit it each month. Ask yourself, are you holding true to the vision of who you want to be? If so, practice gratitude. If not, practice courage. Follow for more content!
