Most students start SAT Reading & Writing at question 1. Ours don’t.

The note-taking and vocab questions are fast and simple (not easy, but simple), so we teach students to lock in those points first and save the long passages for later. Small strategies like this add up on test day.

Parents, this is what one SAT question can cost.

On his March SAT, Jonathan got absorbed in a Reading passage about business. He spent 12 minutes on a single question and was left with about 4 minutes to answer 7 more. Then panic set in.

On the digital SAT, students get about 71 seconds per question in each Reading & Writing module. A strong reader can still run out of time if they don’t know when to make their best guess, flag the question and move on.

Pacing is a skill students can practice, and it’s much easier to build before test day than during it.

Instead of following some crazy formula when doing standard deviation, think about the difference between the values. If they are far apart, there is a high standard deviation. If they are close together, the standard deviation is close.
