Hello! I am Leah M. Rader Bowers, PhD - founder of Tuteezy Tutoring. I created Tuteezy because I envision an educational system that takes a wholistic approach to STEM learning. Kids donโt enter isolated systems as soon as they step into the classroom. Kids also donโt all learn STEM the same way.
At Tuteezy, we take care to address these truths every session by asking students how they are feeling at the top of each session. We actively listen to our students learning needs and meticulously observe and note learning patterns students present during the session. Students are given lessons customized to their unique learning styles so that โah haโ feeling finally hits and they feel ownership of it.
We partner with the student and their parent/guardian to create a community of support. We update parents with their childโs progress and learning tendencies, arenโt afraid to attempt creative solutions to help our students, and always keep on top of their upcoming assignments and assessments.
Iโm excited about this community building and cannot wait to carry this into the summer and next fall โบ๏ธ

This testimonial came after serious dedication to putting myself in my student's (and their parent's) shoes!
Many creative students in STEM courses might hear "writing" and think yay thank goodness! When they find that they're asked to wax poetic (nah in a very structured way) about scientific concepts that they just got the hang of, they're way less stoked ๐ Getting a student to see how their skills translate to scientific writing takes a few tries (because not all students are the same), some creativity and a lot of encouragement!
T. felt very overwhelmed thinking about the concepts and writing the report at the same time. They needed to tell a story out loud to get their point across. I listened to that story - learned what happened in the experiment, how some variables were known, others were calculated, and what physics concepts were at play. They told me what worked and what went wrong. We structured that story through dictation. They spoke that story, sentence by sentence, into existence as I typed. This method - the dictation of a lab report - resulted in a finished product that was in my student's own words, one that showcased what they knew, and one they could be so proud of! ๐
This method was creative and was GREATLY appreciated by my student and their parents. My student felt instantly relieved - one huge assignment was finally completed and they finally felt like they could do this. Their parents saw how happy T. was and knowing they could come to me with any lab report in the future, were THRILLED ๐คฉ
I will definitely be using this method again. What do you think about this way of having students write lab reports? Comment below!

Introducing Small Groups (online) in high school chemistry and physics starting this summer!
At $35/hr, these sessions are accessible to most. There will only be 5 students per group so spots are limited and each student will get more interaction than occurs in most traditional classroom settings.
Students who join these interactive small groups will learn and review fundamental concepts and how they relate to our world! In physics small groups, we'll cover the basics of projectile motions, circuits, fluid dynamics, forces, momentum, and etc! In chemistry small groups, we'll cover periodic table patterns, chemical reactions, stoichiometry, thermochemistry, solar energy, and so much more!
There are a few trial groups open now so be sure to visit www.tuteezy.com to snag your spot!

When a student is really struggling with chemistry or physics, it's difficult for them to remember what their strengths are ๐ชParents - there are a few things we can do to help students out of this negative self-talk and thought.
1. Amp their confidence WAY UP ๐by starting any homework assignment with problems you know they know and cheer them on! Introduce slight variations to those problems to show them how they've already seen problems like that and can definitely do this type of problem too.
2. If they have amazing creative tendencies (i.e. playing an instrument, drawing, acting, great imagination, playing a sport, etc.), run with those strengths! Great drawers are able to beautifully illustrate word problems. Actors might find it useful to take center stage in the living room and recite their recent monologue of scientific concepts, while our musically inclined students might want to write a song or sing about them. A child with an active imagination will think of stories to go with those concepts and be able to remember them better. Sporty students might just want to do lots of practice problems and practice alone!
TLDR; boost confidence by showing kids problems they already know how to do and play to their creative strengths!
I'm a drawer and writer myself, so I love illustrating word problems and writing down everything I know on a blank piece of paper to know I've got the concepts down!
What are some strengths you use to tackle chemistry, physics and math? Comment below! ๐ซ

My parents always taught me that to whom much is given, much is expected. And we'd like to give back!
We are opening up sliding scale sessions every Monday and Friday to make sure your teen finishes this year strong! It's a stressful time right now and has been so for a minute. We get that.
If your child is struggling with chemistry or physics or algebra and a tutor is something you can't afford, contact us today! Let us offer you some sliding scale options (as much as 75-80% off with code). Black and low-income students to the front please!

New Testimonial Alert โจ๐๐ผ
These make me feel so good! I love knowing I'm helping to boost the confidence of teens who feel like chemistry, physics, or math aren't for them. I once felt the same way and am so happy I had a high school teacher who took the time to learn and cater to my unique learning style!ย ย

Word Problem Wednesday ๐ balancing chemical equations.
For many, it's difficult to "just know" what coefficients are needed to balance the equation!
Writing a list of how many atoms and ions you have on the reactant and product sides helps students visualize the process of balancing chemical equations.
Swipe to the last slide for the answer! Useful hints in between.
How many of y'all remember this? How many of you are parent of kids or are kids struggling with this concept right now?

What are your needs as a student? Swipe left to see some answers from real Tuteezy students!
"I need practice problems that start at MY skill level."
"For concepts to be explained more slowly, with lots of drawings, and examples!"
"I need to know I'm on the right track."
"I want problems that challenge me and actually relate to real-world things."
Whatever your learning needs,
Tuteezy has you covered!
