June Almeida was the first person to image corona viruses

June Almeida was born June Hart to a bus driver and his wife in Glasgow, Scotland. She lived with her family in a tenement building and went to school until age 16 when she had to drop out because the family had no money. Also known as "non-Newtonian" fluids. Sounds kind of fancy, it means that these fluids don't behave like water or oil - run faster when they're heated, run slower when they're cooled. These fluids change their "running speed" based on pressure! Check them out, and visit www.paagedu.org for more!

PAAGE's STEM Fest on Saturday was a resounding success. Several exhibitors verbally expressed a desire to return next year, as well as several attendees. The Fest has already outgrown the original venue and will have to be held in a larger space next year. Heartfelt thanks from our board to all the volunteers who worked very hard to make the day go as smoothly as it did.

Dramatic demonstrations, presented at intervals from the stage, will augment the interactive exhibits and activity stations.

by the University of Colorado Boulder is a fantastic source of videos aligned with the NGSS standards for K-12 STEM education. See the video that inspired the Cool Cations flashlight activity here:

During a power failure, or when we go outside at night, we grab a flashlight so we can find our way. What happens inside a flashlight that makes the bulb light up? Why do we need a switch to turn on a flashlight? Have you ever noticed that for the flashlight to work you must orient the batteries a c...

PAAGE’s Cool Cation club members started building their flashlights yesterday. First we watched a video on what to do while enjoying a snack. Then we took a pre test to capture our current knowledge of the NGSS exercise. The flashlights will take a few meetings to complete, after which we will take a post test to see how much new knowledge we gained. Go Cations!
