Starting August 3rd, we will begin hosting several SCSU graduate programs right here at NHCC. This partnership will help create new pathways for students to continue their education and achieve their goals!

-75,097.53 pounds of food distributed

These fantastic numbers are a testament to the hardworking staff and students in our CARE Center, our thoughtful volunteers, and the generous donations made by our campus community. NHCC Social Worker, Ellie McDowell, commented, “Although there were many challenges this year that impacted food security (SNAP changes, federal shutdown, and Operation Metro Surge), our campus and surrounding community consistently showed up to support one another and showed their commitment to ensuring students had access to the resources they needed.”

We look forward to starting another school year soon and providing the same excellent service in the Food Cupboard to our students and their families!

Increasing nonpartisan civic engagement is important to NHCC. We’re honored to be one of 173 institutions to receive the 2026 Highly Established Action Plan Seal from All In To Vote for our work supporting the next generation of voters!

Exciting news! Last month, NHCC business professor, Michelle Anderson, attended the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP) Annual Conference in Phoenix, where she was presented with a Teaching Excellence Award!

ACBSP established the Teaching Excellence Award to honor faculty members who exemplify excellence in teaching at degree-granting institutions. This award aims to celebrate educators who go above and beyond in delivering quality education to their students.

When asked what it felt like to receive the award, Michelle commented, “When I found out I'd won this award, there may have been a happy dance involved (no witnesses, can't prove it). Seriously, though, this means the world to me. Coming from an organization all about continuous improvement and excellence in education, and knowing how many incredible educators are part of it, I'm beyond honored. I owe so much of it to my dean and fellow faculty—these brilliant, student-obsessed people inspire me daily to be better and to keep looking for opportunities to best serve our students. Basically, I'm just trying to keep up with them. Lucky me!”

Kudos to the City of Brooklyn Park for the incredible Juneteenth Celebration they held on Saturday at NHCC! It was a fun event filled with music, crafts, culture, and community!

Maurice O’Bannon, NHCC Director of Community Impact, commented,
“It was a great event and was fulfilling to bring community together and collaborate with the city on such a meaningful initiative and support local owned black businesses in celebration of the Juneteenth holiday while also giving a platform to those who may not have one and help acknowledge and amplify the voices and work they do and have done.”

A summer night at the ballpark? Count us in!

Last week, our TRIO students and staff spent an evening at CHS Field for Minnesota TRIO's annual "Swing for Success" event as the Saints played the Omaha Storm Chasers.

Students had the opportunity to connect with fellow TRIO participants from across Minnesota, hear from Saints Director of Ticket Sales, Will Young, about careers in sports, ask questions about his professional journey, and enjoy a nice night out.
The weather was perfect, the food was great, and one of our students even ended up with a home run ball!

Experiences like these help students build connections, explore career possibilities, and create memories off campus. We're happy our TRIO students, staff (and alumni) could be part of it!
