Pang Her Vang is a respected HMong cultural bearer, folk-song composer and singer, educator, and shaman. Born in Laos in 1954, she learned traditional folk singing, musical instruments, weaving, and sewing from an early age. A gifted vocalist, she can sing in 11 suab, or traditional HMong tones.

After fleeing Laos in 1975, Pang lived in Thailand’s Ban Vinai refugee camp before immigrating to the United States in 1980. While working and raising her family in the Twin Cities, she earned a high school diploma and an associate degree.

Pang teaches, reads, and writes in both Moob Leng and Moob Dawb. As president of the Mong United Equality Association, she preserves Moob Leng language and culture for future generations. She also serves HMong families as a shaman, offering spiritual guidance, healing, and care. She carries forward—and passes on—the living traditions of the Hmong people.

After co-authoring several Moob Leng language books, she published her latest work, Nkauj See Hlub Puas Tau Ib Tug Tub Kab Npauj Npaim, a collection of poetic folk songs written in both the Moob Leng and Moob Dawb dialects of the Luang Prabang region of Laos.

See Pha Vang is a passionate educator, writer, storyteller, and performer dedicated to celebrating and preserving Hmong language, culture, and history. With over two decades of elementary classroom experience, she has spent 13 years advancing Hmong language programming within Saint Paul Public Schools, where she coordinates curriculum development, leads professional development, and aligns PreK–12 dual-language program pathways. As a staff developer and program designer, See provides specialized training for educators in Hmong cultural practices, language acquisition, and program articulation. Beyond the classroom, she is a steadfast community organizer and advocate for educational equity and social justice. See holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse and a Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of St. Thomas. Above all, her greatest joy is her family: she is the devoted mother of seven children and a proud grandmother.

Pang Yang is a dedicated multilingual veteran teacher, the mother of seven children, and currently the Executive Director of MN Zej Zog. Beyond her professional accomplishments, Pang is a devoted mother to five daughters and two sons, and, in recent years, she has embraced the joys of grandparenthood. Prior to authoring these books, she distinguished herself as a dedicated ESL and HMong language educator, co-authoring numerous books alongside her students through HER Publisher. She holds a B.A. from Concordia University and a Master of Arts in English as a Second Language from Hamline University. She was named the MN Council on the Teaching of Language and Culture 2019 Teacher of the Year and a 2022 Bush Fellow.

Susan grew up believing that books could change a life. They changed hers. Now she writes so others can discover that same power.

A Hmong author, storyteller, and story keeper, Susan writes at the intersection of identity, family, history, courage, and possibility. Her work gives voice to stories too often left untold—preserving memory, honoring those who came before us, strengthening the generations living now, and leaving something meaningful for those still to come.

Beyond the page, Susan has spent much of her life creating change in the world around her. She is a Minnesota State Senator, entrepreneur, community leader, mentor, and advocate for women and girls.

Across public service, entrepreneurship, mentorship, and writing, one purpose has remained constant: to help people recognize the power within themselves and the possibilities before them.

Her books include WE ARE HMONG: Fierce and Strong; My Daughter: From My Heart, For You; Hmong Names; and Success That Looks Like Me

Sue Vang, a Hmong refugee who immigrated to the United States at the age of six, deeply values diversity, personal strength, and the power of relationships. Passionate about preserving her indigenous HMong heritage, she dedicates herself to language revitalization and building bridges between the past and present. She holds a B.A. from Concordia University and a Master of Arts from Hamline in Education and Reading from the University of MN. Sue finds joy in the simple things while empowering dual language students and educators to reclaim their native tongues.

Together, these books are more than stories—
they are a way to help children know where they come from, feel proud of who they are, and carry Hmong language, love, and heritage into the next generation. Perfect for families, classrooms, libraries, and anyone who believes our stories deserve to live on.
