What does sensory play teach? Let me tell ya

Fine Motor Skill strength:
Squeezing, pinching, and digging build hand muscles.
Tool use:
Holding scoops, tongs, and spoons improves coordination.
Dexterity:
Picking up tiny objects helps prepare fingers for writing.
Cognitive and math skills volume and weight: Pouring materials between different containers teaches full, empty, more, and less.
Sorting and classifying:
Grouping items by color, shape, or size builds early logic.
Counting: Finding and counting hidden objects introduces basic math.
Language/ Social Skills + vocabulary:
Children talk about textures like rough, smooth, soft, or hard.
Storytelling:
Imaginative play lets kids act out scenes and build narratives.
Sharing:
Playing together teaches turn-taking and teamwork
Emotional RegulationCalming down:
Repetitive motions like pouring or sifting help reduce stress.
Focus:
Deep concentration on textures builds attention spans

This is a great explanation of why some children cry, or don’t want to leave you during drop off to school/daycare.
I like it because it truly explains what’s going on in their head. I hope this helps my families as school is right around the corner. Plus my families coming back to daycare.
