Upon completion of renovating and beautifying the Cathedral in 1970, a search was undertaken for a new Cathedral Center site to serve the religious, educational and social needs of the Community. In 1973, after much review and deliberation, the ten acre Parker Estate adjacent to Larz Anderson Park and near Hellenic College in Brookline, was purchased. This beautiful grass and wooded property was i

n close proximity to the Cathedral and included a stately and spacious Mansion with an old carriage house. Following its purchase, authorization was given for a Development Committee, headed by George P. Toumpouras who, with the dedicated assistance of Parish Council presidents Atty. Sutton, proceeded with the development of the Center site. The Committee devised a unique development program consisting of three phases. In Phase I, the carriage house was converted into a charming 100 seat Chapel and was opened on November 1, 1975. Phase 11 consisted of renovating and converting the Mansion into Cathedral office, meeting space, rooms for Cathedral organizations, and a small caretaker’s apartment. Upon completion in 1973, all administrative services of the Cathedral were moved to the Mansion. For Phase Ill, Robert Shackleton, the Chapel’s architect, was commissioned to design plans for the Community Center. His plans included rooms for Greek School classes, meetings, and a large auditorium for educational and social functions.

For those who attended the Cathedral Greek Festival in Brookline, you may have seen the mansion surrounded by a fence. Preparations are being made to demolish the old mansion/office an in its place will be the new Center Office plus a chapel attached to it. The old small chapel will be demolished and the entire area by NarrowGate the developer/architectural frim, doing mostly non-profit organization work will do beautiful landscaping of the property,. This has been a while in the making but the Catheral Stewards in a general assembly voted on the new construction and landscaping. This will be the 50th Anniversary since construction of the Center Hall and property in Brookline. One of the milestones for 2022-2023. The Cathedral offices are now in a modular 1640 square foot building behind the current chapel. We will upgrade the Center Hall to 1st quarter 21st Century standards! Currently Plumbing and gas lines are being capped for the eventual demolition of the old mansion/office. Our Center Hall is still available for rental and your special event.
