A look back at our Community Rug Tufting Workshop with Artist-in-Residence Katie McColgan🧶🪡

Tufters came together to learn the basics of rug tufting, experiment with fiber art, and contribute to a collaborative textile artwork.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped bring this community-made piece to life!

Katie’s residency will conclude with an exhibition of completed works in the Annex Gallery, on view Sept 11–Nov 20. Join us for the Opening Reception on Friday, Sept 18, 6–8pm!

The Annex Gallery has been filled with vibrant colors and works in progress as Artist-in-Residence Katie McColgan develops a new body of tufted textile pieces🧶🧵

Throughout the summer, Katie has been inviting visitors to see the creative process as it unfolds. Young artists from our Summer Art Program have also stopped by during open studio sessions to learn about rug tufting, ask questions, and get a behind-the-scenes look at an artist’s practice.

Meet our Summer 2026 Artist-in-Residence, Katie McColgan!

From July 13–August 31, Katie will transform Brookline Arts Center’s Annex Gallery into a working rug tufting studio. Throughout her residency, she’ll create new large-scale textile works while leading workshops, open studio sessions, and collaborative community projects. The residency will conclude with an exhibition of completed works on view in the Gallery.

A look at some of the incredible artwork our young artists have created so far this summer!

From symbolic drawings inspired by ancient art, to handcrafted earrings and bracelets in our Jewelry studio, to imaginative creatures in Ceramics, each project reflects the creativity and unique ideas our students bring to the studio.

We can’t wait to see what they create next!

What an amazing first week of our Kids Summer Art Program!

Our artists spent the week creating incredible projects in our Ceramics & Jewelry studios. We wrapped up the week with our Friday Bubble Party, a fun tradition to celebrate a week of creativity and making!
