We are a visual arts center committed to bringing the community meaningful experiences in the arts.

Established in 1968, the BAC has a reputation throughout Greater Boston for being one of the most forward-thinking and comprehensive arts centers around. We serve over 5,000 individuals of all ages, backgrounds and abilities each year through classes and workshops, community outreach programs, exhibitions, public art activities and special events within and beyond our walls. We are deeply committed to providing high quality experiences in the arts for our students and community. Whether you are 2 or 92, there is an art opportunity and community here for you!

We’re looking for a part-time teacher to lead hands-on art classes for our youngest studio artists, ages 5–7, starting in Winter 2027.

Recently, we welcomed Gateway Arts to the Brookline Arts Center, where a few of their artists joined our Artist in Residence, Katie McColgan, for a rug tufting demonstration. Gateway just launched a tufting program and had many artists eager to learn more about this new medium they love. Katie shared her process, answered their questions, and showed the group her techniques for how she creates her large-scale tufted works.

We are thrilled that Katie’s residency at BAC has created space for other artists in Brookline to dive deeper into this amazing medium. Thank you Vinfen's Gateway Arts for coming to visit us!

A look back at our Community Rug Tufting Workshop with Artist-in-Residence Katie McColgan🧶🪡

Tufters came together to learn the basics of rug tufting, experiment with fiber art, and contribute to a collaborative textile artwork.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped bring this community-made piece to life!

Katie’s residency will conclude with an exhibition of completed works in the Annex Gallery, on view Sept 11–Nov 20. Join us for the Opening Reception on Friday, Sept 18, 6–8pm!
