An owl circled our fields this weekend. Such an unusual majestic sight inspired something from within me. A painting and a little chant to accompany
🌟Purple mother owl Let wisdom and intuition Fly all around me as I find compassion For myself and those all around me. 🌟 I sang this chant on a beautiful sunny hillside while skiing and then right after I ran into a woman. This woman had just finished walking the nearby beach and heard my voice echo across the cove. With my voice she said that she imagined there was a mermaid singing along the shores. How honored I was to hear that my voice inspired her imagination and creative thought. I told her it was a chant to accompany a painting of an ow I had just finished…She too saw an owl circling her fields on that very same day! How serendipitous to run into this woman and how connected we truly all are.

We had our last homeschool class and It is with a heavy heart that I announce Island Meadow Arts will be taking a pause on all art classes in the new year. I have wholeheartedly enjoyed serving the Blue Hill greater community these past six years. It has been a joy to facilitate and witness children and adults creating, imagining and exploring within the arts. With this pause I hope to gain the resources, support, and efforts to someday open a new and improved community arts center in Blue Hill. I am so grateful to everyone who has taken classes at Island Meadow Arts or come to a community event or donated time and resources. The arts are such a powerful and important tool of expression, communication, development, and self discovery for all. May you all find creative ways to express and enjoy. Although I am letting go of this space reach out if you are interested in private events.

Capturing the colors of autumn in our homeschool art group. Fabric dyed with marigold flowers and Japanese maple leaves. Kids always delight in the dyeing process from boiling the plants to mixing the dye bath to then opening the surprise of shibori resist. We’ll be sewing these fabrics into something special so stay tuned.

ANNOUNCEMENT - I’ve been quiet on social this fall…well because it’s been quiet at Island Meadow Arts-registration is down by half! I love what I do here in this space teaching and connecting with the community. What a journey it’s been-starting Island Meadow Arts in a barn to then being in my house to now being in a rented studio space at 50 Main Street-that’s SIX YEARS ! 🌟And for this year I’m calling in help and transformation. This space has held so much joy, exploration, and creativity! I’m ready to either share space or move on from Island Meadow Arts. That’s it! This is the year of make it or break it! I hope to continue to teach classes at Island Meadow arts, but at this point, honestly, I’m not sure what will come next. My ultimate dream is to have an art center where many teachers of many different art forms come together in one space to share, create, and connect. I know I won’t get to this dream right away or maybe ever but the first step in getting there is asking my community for help. 🌟IF YOU ARE THAT SOMEONE with a creative soul, a maker, an artist, a dancer, a performer reach out! If you are someone with business advice reach out too! Let’s talk, let’s create, let’s inspire this community and each other!

Beautiful fern sketchbook covers made by some of our homeschool students-bight colors so symbolic of this time of year. This is the first year I’ve had kids making their own sketchbooks and it sure does give them a sense of autonomy over their work. This simple pamphlet book stitch can be taught to kids as young as 6 yrs old!

Summer batik! modified this batik using glue to fit the mobile outdoor classroom .maine 💛I’ve been with this sweet summer time family for three years now. What a gem of a place to teach summer art classes.
