Another fun, relaxed week at ACRES!

This week was a little slower-paced, but full of fun, fresh air, and learning! We enjoyed a more relaxed rhythm, took advantage of the beautiful weather, and soaked up lots of outside time. 💚

We also dove a little deeper into our learning as we prepare to build our very own terrariums this coming Tuesday!🪴 We can’t wait to put our knowledge into action and create these little ecosystems!

For math, we took our learning outside, too! ☀️ Using task cards, we got up, moved around, practiced new skills, and learned in a hands-on way. Who says learning has to happen sitting at a desk? 😉

Sometimes the slower weeks are just what we need—a little extra time outdoors, meaningful learning, and room to enjoy the moment. We’re wrapping up the week feeling relaxed, refreshed, and excited for what’s ahead! 🌱💚

Another Great Week at ACRES!🌿

We kicked off the week by diving into our newest PBL project—terrariums!💧 Our kiddos have been learning about the water cycle, plant life cycles, plant parts and their functions, and what plants need to survive. Now, they’re putting all of that knowledge together to explore our driving question:

“How can the water cycle and plant life continue inside a closed terrarium?”

In Science, we took on one of our favorite challenges—the Egg Drop! 🥚💥 Students had to figure out which materials and designs would best protect an egg when dropped from the back deck. Every time we do this experiment, we see completely different ideas and approaches from our kiddos, which is exactly what makes it so much fun! They get to test their ideas, learn from what works (and what definitely doesn’t 😂), and make adjustments along the way.

We also made sure to take advantage of this beautiful weather with lots of outdoor time! 🌳☀️

And to finish off the week, we headed out for our first field trip of the year to Jackson Farms! 🐐🎃 We had plenty of laughs, great memories, and lots of fun exploring everything the farm has to offer. Jackson Farms is always a student favorite, and it’s easy to see why with all the different activities and experiences waiting for them around every corner!

What a week! 💚 We’re already looking forward to what’s next.

What a great week at ACRES! 🌿
We kicked off the week with a brand-new PBL all about terrariums! The students were introduced to terrariums and began learning about the water cycle inside them, as well as what plants need to grow and thrive. 🌱💧

The beautiful weather also meant we may have snuck in a little extra outside time here and there! ☀️ We always love taking advantage of those nice days.

We also finished reading The World According to Humphrey, which meant it was time to meet a new mystery guest—one who can relate to Humphrey quite well! 🐹📚Mrs. Dulany brought back a friend who brought along some guinea pigs for the students to meet. The kids absolutely loved it! They were so gentle and quiet as they observed and interacted with them. 🐹

We always look forward to weeks like this one—full of learning, exploring, and a little bit of fun along the way!

We can’t wait to see what next week brings! 🌿✨

Another Great Week at ACRES!🍕

This week in Science, we had fun with Mystery Animals and some pretty silly “What If?” discussions! What if humans had four arms? What if we could breathe underwater? The kiddos had the best time coming up with the silliest and most creative ideas and seeing just how far their imaginations could take them! 🐙🧠

During Story Time, as always, our kiddos got the chance to get cozy, settle in, and enjoy a good story, followed by a short activity to go along with it. 📚🧸 We love having that little bit of quiet time to slow down, listen, and let our imaginations wander.

And finally… the biggest project we’ve worked on over the past few weeks has officially come to an end!🎉

Our kiddos were challenged to create the best pizza creation, and they took the challenge seriously! They taste-tested different ingredients, mixed combinations together, separated them, tried them all at once, and experimented until they found the flavors they thought worked best. Once they were placed into groups, each team came up with a groovy team name and began working together to create their perfect pizza combination.

But we couldn’t stop at the recipe! Each group had to advertise their pizza, designing their own creative vision of what their pizza would look like. 🍕

Then Wednesday finally came… PIZZA DAY!👩‍🍳🔥 Each group received homemade dough and complete creative freedom to add whatever ingredients they thought would make their pizza the best. They got to watch their ideas come to life, and ultimately, everyone had the opportunity to taste a little bit of each group’s creation.

After the taste testing, it was time to vote! 🗳️🍕 The kiddos chose the pizza they thought tasted the best, making for a very exciting (and delicious!) ending to our project.

From experimenting and teamwork to creativity, problem-solving, advertising, cooking, and a whole lot of taste testing, this project had a little bit of everything!

What a Week at ACRES!

This week was packed with creativity, connection, and plenty of hands-on learning! Our students spent time practicing good sportsmanship and teamwork through board games, where taking turns and encouraging one another was just as important as winning. Groups also got creative with a silent group mural, working together without speaking and using only gestures to bring their ideas to life. Lastly, we put our problem-solving skills to work by designing structures inspired by The Three Little Pigs and testing whether they could withstand a windy challenge! 💨

We also had a little mystery brewing around the school when students spent the day guessing who our surprise guest could be. They were excited to welcome Mrs. Dulaney, who read The World According to Humphrey and sent each student home with their own copy to enjoy.

Over in science class students planted radish seeds and will be keeping an eye on them as they sprout and grow. And, of course, we couldn't end the week without a little Mentos and soda fun! Will coke go higher than sprite? 💥

From teamwork and new friendships to creative challenges and experiments, this week was a great reminder that learning at ACRES doesn't always happen at a desk. We’re already looking forward to what’s next! 🌿

Week Two at ACRES 🌱

Another week down at ACRES! Our second week has been full of learning, creativity, connection, and lots of new experiences. The kiddos are learning SO many new things while making new friends and continuing to build a little community with one another. 🌱

Our students have been especially creative with PBL this week! They worked on projects like creating a map of our school and designing a “container” to carry a small object. We’ve also been bringing nature into our curriculum in some really fun ways. We’ve gotten creative with learning our numbers—and REALLY creative when it came to combining nature and place value. 😂🌿

Science has been a big hit, too! The kids learned about oxidation in our foods and even had a lesson on DNA—how everyone’s DNA is different, how our bodies read DNA, and, of course, the very important question of whether or not a “strawberry human” would be ethical. 😂🍓🧬

Our littles have been loving story time and always enjoy having a fun little activity to go along with the books they’re reading. 📚✨

It’s been so fun watching the kids learn, explore, create, ask questions, and grow together. Another week down—and SO many more adventures to come! 💚

We officially kicked off our first week at ACRES, and what a week it has been! 🥳

We spent the week getting to know one another, playing fun get-to-know-you games, building friendships, learning our routines, and getting everything in place for a successful year of learning, growing, and exploring together. 💚

There’s something so exciting about the beginning of a new school year—the fresh start, the new friendships, the big ideas, and all the possibilities ahead. We are SO ready to see where this year takes us! ✨

We’ve officially wrapped up the first day of the 2026–2027 school year at ACRES, and what a day it was! 💚

There’s nothing quite like the energy of the first day. We’re looking forward to everything this new year has in store. New adventures, hands-on learning, big ideas, and lots of memories to come.

Well… today officially closes the chapter on the 2025–2026 school year at ACRES Microschool, and what an unforgettable year it has been. 💚

This year brought so many new faces, friendships, challenges, milestones, laughs, and memories that we know will stay with us for years to come. From silly moments during team-building games and field day competitions, to hands-on learning projects, enrichment days, cooking classes, nature lessons, reading together, and simply watching students grow more confident in themselves each day—this year has been full of moments that reminded us exactly why ACRES exists.

We watched students encourage one another, step outside of their comfort zones, discover new interests, build leadership skills, and learn that education can be meaningful, flexible, creative, and full of joy. Students are leaving this year confident and thriving. They found friendships and connections that became such an important part of their everyday lives. That is something truly special.

To our families—thank you. Thank you for supporting our vision, volunteering your time, cheering on your students, and helping us create a community that feels more like family than just a school. ACRES would not be what it is without each and every one of you.

As bittersweet as it is to wrap up the year, we are so excited for what is ahead. This summer we’ll be working hard behind the scenes, dreaming bigger, planning new opportunities, and continuing to grow into the best version of ACRES we can be for our students.

To our kiddos: thank you for the laughter, the creativity, the endless questions, the funny stories, the excitement, and the love you brought into our building every single day. Watching you learn and grow has been one of the greatest joys of this year.

We hope everyone has a safe, fun, and memory-filled summer. ☀️ We already cannot wait to welcome everyone back for the 2026–2027 school year and see all the amazing things our students will continue to accomplish.
