Meet Coach Micki Twedell! 🥋

Micki teaches our CUBS Jiu Jitsu class and leads Women’s Jiu Jitsu every Saturday!

She started training in January 2023 after looking for a way to stay in shape while learning real self-defense skills, and having the opportunity to compete along the way.

For Micki, one of the best parts of coaching is seeing members become part of something bigger than themselves.

“It's incredibly rewarding to watch them work hard, build their confidence, and take the empowering lessons they learn on the mats out into the world.”

Outside of No Illusions, you’ll find Micki spending time with family, going on bike rides, or lifting. And something you might not know about her? She threw the javelin in college! 👀

Her advice if you’re nervous to start?

Everything is temporary, including those first-class jitters. Walking through the door takes bravery, but if you stick with Jiu Jitsu or Muay Thai, you’ll build incredible friendships, discover a stronger version of yourself, and make memories along the way.

It all starts with that first step. Just go out there and do it! 👊

MEET COACH WYATT HADDAD 🥊

Wyatt teaches Kids Muay Thai and Adult Muay Thai, hosts sparring, and offers Muay Thai private lessons here at No Illusions!

Wyatt has been training for about 3½ years, and it all started with one simple thought while watching UFC: “Why couldn’t I do that?” That question led him to join a gym in Sioux Falls, and now, while attending SDSU, he trains and coaches right here at No Illusions.

His favorite part of teaching? Watching people grow.

“There’s nothing better than those ‘aha’ moments, and helping someone achieve those is so personally rewarding.”

Outside of the gym, Wyatt is a man of many interests. He enjoys writing poetry, playing chess, cooking, snowboarding, and more. Something you might not expect? Wyatt didn’t start martial arts until he was 17 and actually spent his high school years involved in performing arts!

For anyone thinking about starting martial arts, Wyatt’s advice comes from one of his favorite quotes:

“The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time is today.”

It’s never too late to start. The discipline, growth, and stress relief that martial arts can bring are rewards all on their own.
