ILT is an independent Lutheran center for theological education. We work with those who share our conviction that God is at work in the world bringing sinners to repentance and new life in Jesus Christ. Rooted in Scripture and the Lutheran Confessions, ILT students are given the tools to be bearers of the good news of Jesus Christ. ILT is committed to providing the highest level of theological sch

olarship and pastoral preparation to the next generation of faithful preachers and teachers, and making it affordable and accessible to potential students through means of its online, real-time classes.

🎉 A Record-Setting Start to the Academic Year at ILT!

The Institute of Lutheran Theology is beginning a new academic year with much to celebrate. 🙌 With more than 150 students enrolled, ILT has reached the largest enrollment in our school’s history!

But the real story isn’t simply the numbers. It’s what those numbers represent: men and women answering Christ’s call to preach, teach, and serve. ✝️

This year, ILT welcomes 27 new students, joining a community that stretches from across North America to countries around the world. 🌎
Many are already actively serving in congregations, church plants, schools, campus ministries, care ministries, and other ministry settings while continuing their theological education.

As we look ahead to the year to come, we give thanks to God for this growth and for everyone who continues to support ILT’s mission of preparing students to share the Word of God wherever they are called. 🙏

🎓 As ILT begins its 19th year with record enrollment, an interesting study of seminary education points out that our model puts us on the cutting edge of effectively serving a variety of students and ministries, all for the sake of Christ’s church. ✝️

A recent essay by Dale Coulter, “The Great Seminary Sorting” — https://shorturl.at/DA7lf — reaches three conclusions:

1️⃣ The traditional freestanding seminary with an on-campus population is over.
The future is with seminaries that adapt to a hybrid approach with multi-site campuses at local churches and online modalities.💻⛪

2️⃣ Seminaries that remain flexible and entrepreneurial will grow.
Growth is in the rise of smaller degrees with more focused specialization on leadership or other areas.📚📈

3️⃣ Seminaries that effectively use the new media landscape will grow.
It’s no longer about assembling a well-known faculty at a single location, but maximizing the online world to bring scholars together and advance new scholarship in more popular forms.🌎

Students want to study with well-known Protestant scholars, but they do not want to move or leave their jobs.

As theological education continues to evolve, ILT is excited to continue finding innovative ways to serve students wherever God has called them. 🙏

This brief video summarizes Coulter’s essay. 👇 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FxMJBY1-3zU

Mainline seminaries are vanishing. Non-conformist ones are booming. What a generational, ecclesial, and educational shift reveals.

Can you really get a legitimate theological education online? 💻

We believe the answer is absolutely.

At ILT, technology brings students and faculty together for genuine conversation, thoughtful debate, and meaningful connection, no matter the distance. 🌎

Online doesn't have to mean disconnected.🙏
