**ACTION ALERT** The South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks Commission will be discussing the Nest Predator Bounty Program on January 16th!
According to the Prairie Hills Audubon Society of Western South Dakota, Governor Noem is considering spending another $1 million on a Nest Predator Bounty Program in 2020. There is a possibility that GFP Commissioners could take action on this Bounty Program at the January 16th meeting, as legislative approval is not needed to renew this program.
The Nest Predator Bounty Program was a waste of money, inhumane, and could damage our ecosystem. The state of South Dakota paid trappers $10/tail to kill 54,460 animals in 2019: Raccoon, Striped Skunk, Opossum, Red Fox and Badger.
You can see the tail breakdown by species and county @ http://bit.ly/2LfiA8m. Keep in mind this program ran April-August, so the 54,460 kill total doesn't include all of the young that died when their mothers were trapped 😢
How can you help stop this wanton waste of wildlife and inhumane program from happening again this year? Please email the following before Monday the 13th!
🐾 Email Governor Kristi Noem's office @ https://sd.gov/governor/contact/contact.aspx and tell her you don't want another NPBP again this year.
🐾 Email GFP Commissioners @ https://gfp.sd.gov/commission/members/ or submit a public comment @ https://gfp.sd.gov/forms/positions/ and ask them not to approve another NPBP.
🐾 Email the SD Dept of Game Fish & Parks @ [email protected] and tell them you don't want another bounty program this year.
As always, please keep all correspondence polite. We've included more information and a few past news stories in the comments below. Please share this information to help educate others on this wasteful, ill-conceived and cruel program!
