Thank you from this year’s SDWLA crew!

We were thrilled to bring back our conference yesterday. It was our intent to provide a space to connect and learn from each other.

We couldn’t have done it without our presenters! Thank you for sharing your best practices with your fellow educators! We appreciate the time and energy this takes and are grateful for your willingness to contribute to the conference in this way. Whether it was a 5 minute mini share, a 25 minute brief, or a 50 minute full session, know that your ideas inspired other teachers in the room with you and in turn will inspire their students.

We also couldn’t have done it without our attendees! To give up a weekend day to better yourself as an educator is not easy! We truly hope that you left inspired and have new ideas and energy to make it to the finish line of this year and beyond!

Our keynote speakers deserve a special shoutout as well! Yutzil Becker and Natasha Berg both did an amazing job addressing a diverse group of teachers with information that was relevant to all!

Please remember that what we do is important and when we place value on it by participating in events like these, others will more readily see the value in it as well.

Thank you again from all of us!

⚠️Urgent advocacy action needed! The House Appropriations Committee will begin marking up the FY27 State Department funding bill on April 23rd.

Currently, the proposed budget includes $451 million in cuts to the Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). These cuts will reduce the ECA’s funding to only $215 million, putting most international scholarship and language programs at risk.

Language advocates have no time to lose! We urge you to join us in contacting your Senators and Representatives immediately to demand that ECA funding be restored to FY25 levels.

📣 ACT NOW to help restore funding: https://www.votervoice.net/JNCL/Campaigns/136524/Respond.
