Sigma Alpha -Omega Chapter

Agricultural Sorority formed to cultivate women in agriculture and to strengthen the bonds of friendship and sisterhood among them.

The objective of Sigma Alpha shall be to promote its members in all facets of agriculture and to strengthen the bonds of friendship among them. It is the purpose of the members to strive for achievement in scholarship, leadership, and service, and to further the development of excellence in women pursuing careers in agriculture.

Internship Spotlight!!

Our sister Sophie is a Total Experience Intern at Kibble Equipment, where she has had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience across multiple areas of the dealership and learn how each department works together to serve customers.

Throughout her internship, Sophie has assisted with inventory management, fulfilled customer orders, and helped organize Kibble Equipment’s 50th Anniversary celebrations and customer appreciation events. She also had the opportunity to represent Kibble Equipment at their booth during Minnesota Farm Fest.

Through these experiences, Sophie has strengthened her communication, teamwork, adaptability, problem-solving, and leadership skills while gaining a better understanding of the many moving parts that go into an agricultural business.

We are so proud of Sophie and all of her hard work, growth, and dedication throughout her internship!

Internship Spotlight!!

Our sister Gabi Bruns spent her internship gaining hands-on experience in both the feed industry and livestock industry, splitting her time between traveling on the road and working in a feed mill.

While on the road, Gabi had the opportunity to tour different feed locations, corn plants, and ranches and livestock operations. She also attended meetings and conferences, gaining valuable insight into the livestock and feed industry. Gabi even got a glimpse into the sales side of the industry by meeting with producers and learning how to improve and perfect a sales call.

Her favorite part of the internship was working in the feed mill. Her daily responsibilities included making feed, entering feed orders into the software, setting up the correct bins for each mix, weighing medications, loading trucks, and finalizing delivery orders.

Gabi also took on maintenance responsibilities around the mill, including making sure products stayed stocked, checking the micro system daily to help prevent potential risks, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and helping fix problems as they came up.

Through her internship, Gabi gained valuable hands-on experience, expanded her knowledge of the feed and livestock industries, and developed skills in production, maintenance, sales, and customer service.

We are so proud of Gabi and all of her hard work, dedication, and growth throughout her internship!

Internship Spotlight!!

Our sister Maria is a Precision Ag Technology Intern at Agtegra Cooperative, where she has been exploring the many ways technology is helping shape the future of agriculture.

Throughout her internship, Maria has worked on a variety of projects, including collecting and processing multispectral drone imagery for nitrogen, Preceon Corn, and fungicide trials. She has also built Power BI dashboards using soil sample data, created drone prescription maps, and assisted with tissue sampling and stand counts.

Maria has gained hands-on experience with spray drones, planting research trials, and data analytics, giving her a well-rounded look at how precision technology helps agronomists and growers make informed decisions.

Beyond the technical skills, this internship has challenged Maria to think critically, learn new technology, work alongside professionals across the cooperative, and connect what she sees in the field with meaningful data. Each project has helped build her confidence and further fueled her passion for precision agriculture.

Internship Spotlight!!

Our sister Halle is the barn manager at Trinity Trails in Fishtail, MT! She has been working under the supervision of Mrs. Jenny Steffenson, the vice-chair of Trinity Trails. Halle started her internship on May 15 and will finish on August 16, completing approximately 450 hours!

During her internship, Halle has taken on a variety of responsibilities at the barn. Each day, she feeds the horses their specific grain and supplement mixes based on their individual health needs. When campers arrive, she leads an in-depth safety talk to teach them how to safely interact with the horses and properly act around the barn.

Halle has also worked to learn each horse’s personality and each camper’s experience level so she can pair them together in a way that sets both the horse and camper up for success. She leads or brings up the end of trail rides, helps campers who may be nervous, and makes sure both the horses and riders stay safe.

Another part of Halle’s internship is leading chapel. Each week, she is assigned one or two chapels to lead. She also works with campers from the main camp who come to the barn for trail rides. When they arrive, Halle gives them a safety talk and learns about their previous horse experience to help determine which horse will be the best fit for them.

What Halle really enjoys about her internship at Trinity Trails is getting to work with horses and campers while gaining hands-on experience and learning more about leadership, safety, and horsemanship.

Internship Spotlight!!

This summer, Jaydn is spending her summer as a Grain Originator Intern with Farmers Coop Society (FCS)!
Throughout her internship, Jaydn has gained valuable hands-on experience working alongside Grain Originators, Merchandisers, and the grain team. She has learned how grain markets and basis impact daily decisions while helping Originators serve customers and manage grain marketing opportunities. Her daily responsibilities include preparing morning market notes, updating competitive bids, calling customers, and assisting the grain team with projects that support producers and the cooperative.

This internship has strengthened Jaydn’s communication, analytical, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills while expanding her knowledge of grain origination, grain merchandising, grain markets, and industry terminology. She has especially enjoyed building relationships with farmers, learning from experienced Grain Originators and Merchandisers, and gaining a better understanding of how the grain industry operates each day.

Most importantly, this internship has reinforced Jaydn’s passion for agriculture and confirmed her desire to pursue a career in the grain industry, where she can continue building relationships with producers and serving the agricultural community.

Internship Spotlight!!

Our sister, Holly, is spending her summer as an Agricultural Education Intern with the Minnesota Agricultural Education Leadership Council (MAELC)!

Throughout her internship, Holly has gained valuable experience both inside and outside the classroom by planning and leading educational activities, developing lesson plans, organizing community events, and supporting agricultural education programs. She helped prepare for Glencoe Dairy Days, worked in the school garden, planned the FFA Officer Retreat and Summer Ag Tour, attended professional development events, and accompanied students on tours of farms, agribusinesses, and agricultural organizations across Northern Minnesota.

This internship has strengthened Holly’s leadership, communication, organization, adaptability, and collaboration skills while reinforcing the importance of hands-on learning. Most importantly, it has confirmed her passion for agricultural education and her desire to create meaningful experiences that connect students with the agriculture industry.

We are so proud of Holly and all of her hard work and dedication this summer during her internship!

Internship Spotlight!!

Our sister, Greta, is spending her summer as an Insurance Specialist Intern with Rain and Hail, a Chubb Company, in Johnston, Iowa!

Throughout her internship, Greta has gained hands-on experience in the crop insurance industry by working in claims, underwriting, and marketing. One of the highlights of her summer was traveling to Illinois with her fellow interns, where they had the opportunity to see firsthand how Marketing Specialists build relationships with agents and support their customers.

This internship has given Greta valuable insight into the many sides of the crop insurance industry while allowing her to connect with professionals, strengthen her understanding of agricultural business, and continue growing both personally and professionally.

We are so proud of Greta and all of her hard work and dedication this summer during her internship!

Internship Spotlight!!

Our sister Kristine is spending her summer as a Ranch-Integrated Intern at Cottonwood, where she is gaining hands-on experience in all aspects of daily ranch operations. Throughout her internship, she has been feeding horses and cattle, operating equipment such as a skid loader and feed wagon, and using horses as an essential part of everyday ranch work.

In addition to her daily responsibilities, Kristine has been helping start and train young horses to become accustomed to ranch life and assisting with gathering and moving cattle on horseback. She has also been monitoring cattle health and participating in general livestock management. So far this summer, she has helped with branding, vaccinating, and processing calves. This weekend, she will have the opportunity to assist with artificial insemination (AI), giving her a firsthand look at Cottonwood’s breeding protocols and a deeper understanding of the ranch’s breeding season.

What Kristine enjoys most about her internship is the opportunity to experience every part of a working ranch while learning from knowledgeable mentors who are always willing to teach and answer questions. Each day brings new experiences that continue to build her confidence, skills, and passion for the beef industry.

We are so proud of Kristine and all of her hard work and dedication throughout her internship this summer!

Internship Spotlight!!   Our sister, Paige Foster, just wrapped up her first internship of the summer in Tulsa, Oklahoma!  Paige worked as a Marketing and Communications Intern for the Pinto Horse Association (PtHA) during the Pinto World Championship, a two-week horse show featuring more than 700 classes, including roping, pole bending, reining, jumping, miniature horse events, rail classes, and more.  Throughout the internship, she assisted the marketing team by taking and editing photos, creating flyers and Instagram content, filming mini mic interviews, managing social media, and helping showcase the event and its exhibitors.

We are so proud of Paige and her hard work and dedication this summer during her internship.
