Hello everyone,
Due to the recent spike in covid19 cases, the Brookhaven schools have closed until Nov. 30th. The Academy of Korean Martial Arts will also be closing and canceling classes until Nov. 30th. This is to ensure that all students remain safe due to possible exposure. Mr. Matt and Ms. Ashley will be available to answer any questions or concerns through the MyStudio app and here on Facebook. Keep practicing while at home!! We hope everyone stays safe and has a wonderful Thanksgiving.

Hello Everyone,
It is time for Belt Testing!!!
Oct. 19th - Oct. 30th
Students who have met the criteria for this round of belt testing will be able to earn their next belt. If you have any questions please talk with Mr. Matt or Ms. Ashley!
Due to precautions and capacity limitations, we will be holding the belt testing during regular class hours and over the next two weeks.
All belts will be given out on first week of November during each student's normal class hours. Belt testing fees must be paid before the first week of November. Household members will be allowed inside the studio during this week to watch belts being awarded! As a precaution, we must require masks to be worn by anyone wishing to come inside and watch.
Thank you for your understanding!

Hard to believe it's already been 4 years since we took a team of people to South Korea for the Cheongju World Martial Arts Masterships! It was a wonderful experience and lots of hard work. Definitely an experience that we will always cherish ♥

Update from Marti:
Grand Master Kincade is now at home to continue his recovery. He is improving daily, but still has a long road ahead. He is being well cared for, and is very happy to be home.
It is very important that he takes the time he needs to heal and get stronger, and needs to be able to rest without interruption. To that end, I ask that you continue to use Facebook instead of his phone to wish him well, offer prayers or support, etc.
As always, thank you for your love and support,
Marti

Quick update from Marti: GM Kincade is still in the hospital, but doing very well. You all know his indomitable spirit and love of his art, and his students, past and present. This is part of what gives him the strength to recover and prosper in the coming weeks. Follow his example, and take your Black Belt Attitude to all areas of your life. As always, thank you all for your love and support for my dad! Train hard and be well.

Update: Grand Master Kincade had quadruple bypass surgery today, and is now in recovery and doing well. Open heart surgery is quite complex, and takes time to recover from. I am not sure how long he will be in the hospital, but will keep you all posted.
As before, I ask that you pass along prayers, well wishes, and support through Facebook for now, so he can read them when he feels up to it.
Thank you all for your love and support,
Marti (GM Kincade’s daughter)
Dear friends and students,
As most of you are aware, I had a mild heart attack Tuesday morning, June 16th, and was kept in the hospital for observation until my surgery, which was scheduled Monday, June 22nd. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for all of the prayers, well wishes, and thoughts during this time.
Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, my bypass surgery was postponed. A DVT, or deep vein thrombosis, was found the day before my bypass surgery was to have been performed. Since having the surgery puts me at an increased risk for developing a pulmonary embolism, my doctors have advised me to treat the DVT first and then have the bypass surgery. Until then, I will remain under my doctors’ care and following directions very carefully!
I apologize for not putting this out sooner. It’s not an easy thing to post personal health updates on social media and we all have enough drama in our lives without having to deal with someone else’s! Still, there are people who are concerned and have been eager to hear about how I’m doing, and I didn’t want to leave everyone hanging.
And one more point: I was very fortunate that I wasn’t alone and was “talked into” going to the emergency room at the first signs of a heart attack. I was also lucky to get great care from the medical professionals I encountered. Please, familiarize yourself with the symptoms of heart attack as well as DVT’s. Recognizing either can help save you or the life of someone you love!
Meanwhile, I’ve been ordered to stay away from work and all but the most minor exercise for a time, and I trust my medical team completely. I’m a little tired and a little overwhelmed and may not quickly respond to private messages for a while, and I appreciate your patience and continued good wishes. I have so much to be thankful for, and the wonderful people in my life are at the top of that list.
Thanks again for all your support.
- Master Kincade
Quick update: GM Kincade is doing well, but the surgery has been postponed for a bit. I’ll have more information tomorrow after he has spoken to the doctors again, and will update here as soon as I can.

Message for the AKMA family from Grand Master Kincade’s daughter, Marti:
As some of you may know from the email he sent out to students, GM Kincade had a mild heart attack on Tuesday. He is doing well, and is currently in the cardiac unit in McComb, where they are planning to do bypass surgery on Monday. His doctors want to keep him in the hospital until after the surgery and a period of recovery.
I know how much my dad means to you all, and how much you mean to him, and I’m sure there will be many wanting to reach out to let him know they are thinking of him. The hospital doesn’t allow visitors due to COVID, and he really needs to rest as much as possible. I’m asking everyone to avoid calling or texting him, and use Facebook to send well wishes instead. This will allow him to see them when he is feeling up to it, without his phone going crazy all the time.
Master Matt will be teaching while GM Kincade recovers, and they are working to figure out the logistics of that now.
My dad’s students (both current and former) mean the world to him, so keep up the good work and exhibit your best Black Belt Attitude in all aspects of your life- nothing would make him prouder.
We will keep you updated on his recovery and class information. Thank you all for your understanding and support!
