Reading Nook Academy was originally operated as The Reading Nook, but in 2021 became an MAIS accredited school. Prior to accreditation, Millie Porter opened the doors with a free table that was missing a leg and few screws along with a few desks from a dumpster. In one year, the “Nook” evolved not only from a tutoring and testing center but also into into a small, individualized private school setting. In 2014, the school began to grow and graduation was in the future. Porter began forming all necessary paperwork from teachers to bylaws and back around to founding principles. Within the next few years, a permanent location was established, children were under one roof, and accreditation began. Currently, the school is preschool through twelfth grade, accredited with 20+ teachers , and a STAND alone school.
It has been brought to our attention that a school in the area is deceitfully using our name, our practices, and our reputation to enhance and promote their school. The Reading Nook was in existence before this particular school, it was formed with no church or other educational affiliation and with NO other government funds. We do not have a sister school or a partner school and we do not have any affiliation with the person(s) or school to which it is told. The misinformation being told to parents and accreditation boards has warranted a concern by Reading Nook Academy staff, parents, and board members.

Two graduations! One is closing a chapter and stepping into the future, while the other is just beginning the journey . The future is bright for each of you in your own special way. Congratulations class of 2026!
