Hampton Edward Smith, a resident of Brookhaven, Mississippi, recently attended the Mississippi HOBY Youth Leadership Seminar held at East Central Community College in Decatur, Mississippi. Smith joined more than 100 fellow youth leaders from across the state as a representative of Brookhaven High School. Hampton is the child of Brett and Erin (Williamson) Smith.
Each year school and community nominated students attend our three-day HOBY seminar. These student ambassadors participate in facilitated dialogue and abilities-based workshops to develop awareness of their leadership strengths and an understanding of their leadership values. Through these dynamic activities with their peers, students hone their skills and learn to recognize, amplify, and collaborate with the diverse strengths of others.
HOBY Alumni truly put their service leadership learning into action after the seminar concludes. Each year, HOBY alumni are challenged to complete 100 hours of service to their communities. These service hours are a tangible way for our alumni to apply their passion and leadership skills toward making a positive impact. The L4S challenge gives recognition to all HOBY alumni who complete at least 100 hours of service each year through the awarding of The President’s Volunteer Service Award.
