REMINDER: Picture day is scheduled for Wednesday, September 16th. Students will have their pictures taken outside in order to safely remove their masks. AM Hybrid students will be photographed with their cohorts between 8am and 10am. PM Hybrid students will be photographed with their cohorts between 12:00pm and 2:00pm. Remote students should report to school between 10:30am and 12pm or after school from 2:30pm to 4:00pm to have their picture taken. All picture orders will be placed completely online. Forms are located in the email sent on 9/4 and 9/15.

Day one of the 2020-2021 school year is in the books! Whether in-person or remote it was great seeing all our Warriors again! It felt wonderful to get or heartbeat back! Thank you to all the teachers, support staff, administrators, parents and cheerleaders that made this happen! One day at a time!

Good morning Warrior Families,
We are incredibly excited to be kicking off our school year in just two days! Below are multiple links helping you understand the different procedures that will be helpful for day one of the school year. For those families in the hybrid system please watch all of the videos. For those in the remote setting please watch the lunch video if you plan on picking one up from the school. These videos are simply to familiarize your child with procedures that meet their basic needs prior to coming to school. Where do I go? What do I do about food? How does the bathroom work? Remember, under the hybrid system the remainder of the day is spent in one classroom for the 2.5 hours they are in session. There are no lockers so all materials go into the classroom with the child. Make sure to have a backpack. You DO NOT need to bring all of your supplies to school on day one. A few pencils and pens, a folder and notebook for each class, and your earbuds will do for day one. Your teachers will tell you if you need anything else.
Our teachers will be explaining over the course of the first two days how the remote portion of their learning works for hybrid students. For remote school students, you will be receiving another email all about the first days and what you need to do to learn about the SEG remote model.

Chromebook distribution for REMOTE FAMILIES ONLY will occur on Monday, August 24th and Tuesday, August 25th. On Monday, pickup times will be between 12:00pm - 4:00pm. On Tuesday, pickup times will be 8:30am - 12:00pm. There are no time slots that you have to sign up for, simply arrive on Lincoln Ave. and pull your car up to the table outside the main gymnasium. Please stay in your car and you will be worked with on a first-come, first-serve basis at your car window. For those walking please stay on the sidewalk and you will be assisted. Please wear a face-covering during this process when in contact with District 95 personnel.

Student schedules will begin to be emailed today. Based on the process it may take up to three days for us to email the whole school. We are hopeful that it can be done much faster but want to reiterate that point from our past email via social media. Also, today we will also have our graduation celebration for our 8th grade Warriors! Our virtual graduation video will broadcast on YouTube on Monday morning. From 5:30 – 7:30pm we will be doing drive up diploma distribution for our 8th grade scholars. It would be awesome to hear Brookfield and LaGrange Park come alive at 7:30pm to celebrate our Warriors. Honk a horn, give a shout out the door, play some music, but let’s give our Warrior Nation a farewell shout before they move on to their high school experience!!!

Good morning Warriors,

Happy last day of formal lessons for the 2019-2020 school year! Thank you so much for all of your dedication to the school and the learning process! This most certainly isn’t the year we all expected but it is the year we got. And what we got had some fantastic things associated with it! Amazing NWEA MAP growth, conference championships in multiple sports, stellar performances in Frozen Junior: The Musical, and so much more for our Warrior Nation. The list could go on and on. Even if our accomplishments were different we were united around them and our love of the Warrior Nation. These things unite us even as a pandemic looks to pull us apart.

On Monday, your children will receive emails to their district email accounts with a SEG year-end video where our staff will say a goodbye. On Monday, we will also have our graduation celebration for our 8th grade Warriors! Our virtual graduation video will broadcast on YouTube on Monday morning. We have received some messages about yearbooks which were addressed with students in our student FAQ we ran, but we want to update our parents as well. Yearbooks are expected to arrive in late June. Our vendor is based in California and everything has been shut down. They are trying to get their facilities back up and running. When we get them in June we will set up a distribution event and communicate that to you via email.

The last day of lunch distribution is on Monday, June 1st. The Brook Park Council is running a food drive and the flier for information is attached. We hope you can help the community by participating!

If you have any more school materials please return them to the main office vestibule in a bag marked with your student’s name. There is a box to drop it in and the door is open Monday – Friday 6am – 3pm. We still have over 100 library books out (many of them in 8th grade with biography projects). Please help us get materials back.

Registration for the upcoming school year will be delayed until mid-June per the Superintendent’s request. We will send that information out when it becomes available.

If you still need to pick up locker materials you can contact Mrs. Mezan to coordinate pickup at [email protected].

For those families who need to return Chromebooks this message was emailed to you by our Technology Director Amanda Pelsor: As Remote Learning and the school year comes to an end on June 1st we will be asking that the devices checked out from the district be returned next week. Staff will be available at the main entrance of SE Gross Middle School on Tuesday, June 2nd through Thursday, June 4th between the hours of 8:00-1:00 for you to drop off the device. If for some reason you are unable to make the pickup times or experienced any issues with the device, please contact Amanda Pelsor, Director of Technology & Innovation at [email protected]. In order for everyone to stay safe, we will practice social distancing by asking you to pull up to the main entrance of SE Gross. Someone will bring a contract out to your car to sign, and then you will be given a device. There is no need to leave your car.

Dear D95 Community:

First and foremost, my sincere apologies about last night’s Zoom meeting being capped at 100 attendees. As we navigate our new way of business, I did not realize the limitation of my Zoom account. This will be corrected for future forums. In the meantime, we are working to convert the Zoom recording to a youtube video so that you may hear the message that was communicated last night. My goal is to communicate that link to you no later than Friday by 3.

I also wanted to take a minute to provide clarification to what I have heard through various parent channels. There has been NO DECISION made if next school year will start with in-person learning, remote learning or blended learning. Further, that decision will not be left up to local school districts. Rather, guidance from ISBE, the IDPH, and the Governor will direct that decision. As I stated last night, there is little guidance right now and no timeline for that direction has been provided. I am hopeful that we will have in-person learning. When in-person learning returns, know that we will have a solid transition plan for students. Administratively, we are planning on how to improve upon our remote learning plan as we know this is the most likely alternative to in-person learning. As evidenced by last night, there is a lot of work ahead of us.

Again, I appreciate the positive comments and support for our teachers. We are in this together and we will continue to work to make “school” a great place for our D95 families.

Dear 8th grade parents;

We are excited about our upcoming virtual graduation and drive up diploma distribution event! While this is not our normal ceremony these unique events the last couple weeks most certainly show the love and dedication our staff and your families have for these students. We look forward to that being continued on Monday, June 1st. Here are a few reminders about the event.

1. The graduation video will be launched on YouTube on Monday, June 1st at 9:00am. You may view it any time after that. A link will be emailed directly to you and will be available on the main page of our website under school news. Feel free to view with your family whenever is most convenient for you as family schedules all look different.

2. On June 1st please arrive in a car at your assigned time for diploma pickup. You should have your child’s first and last name posted in the passenger side of your front windshield. Please have the graduate seated in a passenger side seat. They may wear their cap and gown if you wish. Please do not have multiple vehicles as this will impact other families. If your family has a set of twins (there are multiple in this grade level) and if car logistics make it so that you need two cars, or you want to come through the line twice to give each child their moment please know we understand and that is fine. Times for all families can once again be found attached in the document attached to this email.

3. You will pull up on Lincoln Ave and wrap around to the parking area on Maple Ave. along the building if necessary. There will be people to direct you. All occupants of the car must stay in the car. Please do not exit the vehicle during this event. A staff member will come to your car to distribute the diploma and a gift bag from the PTO which will include your 8th grader’s class shirt and graduation pin and ribbon.

4. Once you receive your diploma please return home. We know this is normally a time of togetherness, but we ask you not to congregate around the building after you receive your diploma. We have seen many graduation photoshoots around town this week and they look awesome! Keep that up and help keep yourself and our faculty and staff safe here at SEG by not congregating on school grounds at this event. We will have many staff here celebrating our 8th graders. They will be physically distanced and we do not want to compromise the efforts that were put in to help make this a unique moment for our 8th graders. Thank you in advance for your cooperation!

Good morning Warrior Nation:

We are in our final week of remote learning. Thank you to all students and parents who were able to diligently engage in this new form of learning. As we begin to wrap up the year many questions still exist. Answers will come with time on what next year looks like, but we need to address a few frequently asked questions.

Question: What do I do with materials you have such as textbooks, uniforms, or library books?

Answer: There is a box in the main office vestibule to return your items. It is open Monday – Friday between 8am and 3pm. Please place it in a bag with your name on it prior to returning. This will be available for the next three weeks.

Question: I missed locker pickup. Can I still get my child’s belongings?

Answer: Please email Mrs. Leslee Mezan at [email protected] to coordinate pickup. We will keep belongings for two weeks before donations occur.

Question: When does school end?

Answer: Monday, June 1st there will be a goodbye video from staff available for your students to end the year. This is the last day of student “attendance.” This Friday is our last day of structured lessons.
