K5 Baumann Class brought cooking into the classroom and created their own cookbooks!

👩🏻‍🍳🧑🏼‍🍳Cooking contributes to four major areas of children's development and learning: literacy, social, emotional, physical, and cognitive. When children are allowed hands-on cooking experiences, they learn both how food is prepared and how it promotes good health.

*Literacy - When Children can make their own snacks, they engage in meaningful language development. They learn a broad vocabulary, with words such as ingredients, recipe, blend, whip, mix, and spread.

*Social Emotional- Children talk a lot about what they are doing and why. Social skills form as they learn to work together. Positive relationships begin to develop with their peers. Taking turns, sharing, and working in group situations begin to blossom.

*Physical- Develops fine motor/physical coordination. Skills such as cutting banana slices, whipping ingredients together, or spreading homemade butter on bread are ways to strengthen children's fine motor and eye/hand coordination in a fun, engaging way.

*Cognitive- Cooking activities inspire children's curiosity and critical thinking skills. Math opportunities are plentiful when children engage in cooking opportunities. For example, ask the student to divide the crackers and cheese so each child receives three. Strengthen problem-solving and challenges the student.

Some former St. Dominic students (Emily, Max, and Keiveana and Austin) stopped by last week and enjoyed their time visiting with past teachers and sharing stories and accomplishments. Their visit was a true testament to the lasting impact of our school on its students.

Thank you to St. Dominic Girl Scout Troop 11208 for your generous donation of our new "Read Under The Trees" bench and reading space along with this wonderful collection of books for our St. Dominic Library.

Our sixth graders had a wonderful day at the Catholic Ecology Center! Students participated in a prayer walk with buddy discussions, worked together through team-building activities, visited the farm animals, and served others by helping w**d and clean the low ropes course area. A day filled with faith, friendship, service, and appreciation for God’s creation!

The K4 classes celebrated learning all their letters with an alphabet parade this morning. They paraded through the hallways in their decorated ABC vests and the students cheered on their achievements!

The 4th graders learned how they can use the sun’s heat and light to cook food in a solar cooker. The students designed and built their solar cookers. Today, we went outside to try them out by making s’mores!

Our eighth-grade Baby Board looks absolutely adorable lining the school hallway! This special display is a wonderful tradition that celebrates our graduating students, allowing us to reflect on how much they have grown over the years. From sweet baby photos to the amazing young people they have become, the board is a heartwarming reminder of the journey that has brought them to this exciting milestone. Congratulations, Class of 2026! 🎓❤️📸
