Time for an LP Board appreciation post! 💐

The LP is thrilled to have had three new board members join us earlier in the Spring. Please help us welcome Ajay Kurian, Suhaly Bautista, and janera solomon—practitioners, administrators, business founders, and artists themselves!

And if you haven’t already heard the news about Time’s top 100 icons, innovators, and leaders in the Art World, check out The LP fam who made the list– and deeply deserve all the flowers! Naomi Beckwith ranks high on our list too as the longest-serving member on The LP Board. Though abroad planning Dokumenta at the moment, we wouldn’t be where we are today without Naomi’s leadership.

Commissioner Diya Vij was a big loss to our board, but an even bigger gain for the City of New York. We couldn’t be more proud and grateful for the Commissioner’s service in support of working artists across the five boroughs.

Join us in the comments to celebrate Ajay, Suhaly, janera, Naomi, and Diya! 🎉

Join us THIS THURSDAY for Shifting Systems for Change: Celebrating the 2026 Create Change Cohort

Six months ago, Create Change Fellows began working alongside four organizations already rooted in the focus areas identified in our Community Needs Assessment: health equity, climate justice, economic justice, and displacement prevention. In each area, the Fellows and community partners have come together to envision what’s possible when creativity and care lead the way.

See the seeds of change they’ve planted together at Shifting Systems for Change on Thursday.

☀️Back in July, we hosted Field Day at Herbert Von King Park, where we teamed up with local artists and community orgs to celebrate all that Bed-Stuy is, and collectively dream of what Bed-Stuy can become. Field Day was our opportunity to slow down, connect with neighbors, and imagine together, of course with a LOT of eating, dancing, and singing along the way!

One of the many offerings Field Day presented was the Create Change Fellows’ Activations. Co-created by the Fellows and community partners, this year’s activations put our hands to WORK! Through writing, sharing ideas, and making art, neighbors materialized their memories, dreams, and creative solutions to build community with each other and, in turn, change each other.

Now, it’s time to run it back. At Shifting Systems for Change: Celebrating the 2026 Create Change Cohort, we invite you to the Weeksville Heritage Center to engage in this world of possibility, deep imagination, and shifting systems to transform our neighborhoods.

✊🏿Black communities have always built what we’ve needed to thrive.

Weeksville Heritage Center is a testament to the self-determination, seed-planting, and relationship-building needed to create sustained change & infrastructure. We’re honored to gather at this historic landmark for Shifting Systems for Change: Celebrating the 2026 Create Change Fellowship, where artists and community members of color collaborate to build something new, for us, by us.

For the past six months, the Fellows and community partners have been learning, imagining, and planting alongside Bed-Stuy community organizations.

Together with Tranquility Farm - An Urban Oasis
Young Doctors Project, GrowHouse NYC, and Brooklyn Coop FCU they’ve explored how narrative power, art, and creativity can help create the conditions needed for sustained change.

We’re inviting YOU to join the conversation! Hear insights from brilliant community leaders, artists, and changemakers of color who’ve built relationships throughout the fellowship program, and celebrate our amazing cohort with us at Weeksville Heritage Center, a historic landmark of Black-led world-building.
