Our judges are hard at work reading all your incredible submissions (and we do mean incredible - multiple judges have raved about the high quality they've seen this year). But we thought while they did their thing you might like to know a little more about them.
The next judge we wanted to introduce you to has been a winner of this contest in years past and is a regular contributor - Shelburne
In what he says seems like a different world more than 25 years ago, Audell Shelburne inherited two journals to edit and a writer’s festival to direct. He tended those tasks for about a decade before moving to Tahlequah and beginning work at Northeastern State University in 2011. After teaching poetry, literature, other classes, and also serving as a department chair and assistant dean, Audell was named dean of the College of Liberal Arts in July 2024.
Audell is married to Beth Melles, who is the chair of Psychology and Counseling at NSU. Together they have two children, two cats, two dogs, very busy schedules, and a very good life.
A former recipient of the Woody Barlow Poetry Award, Audell has published poems in a number of journals and anthologies, including eMerge, descant, Borderlands: Texas Poetry Review, di-verse-city, Loud Coffee, Alchemy and Miracles, Verse Virtual, and others. He has read from his work at the Scissortail Creative Writing Festival, Austin International Poetry Festival, and other smaller venues. A book of poems with Lyman Grant, Robert Wynne, W. Joe Hoppe, and Hank Jones, Round and Round: A Collaborative Cycle of Poems, was published in March 2026.

This week, we’re proud to introduce Dr. Lisa Bisogno, the 2026–2027 President of the Rotary Club of Broken Arrow.
Dr. Bisogno is honored to lead an organization dedicated to the principle of Service Above Self. Her passion for Rotary began as a member of her high school Interact Club in Venice, Florida, and has grown into a lifelong commitment to serving others and strengthening her community.
A Sarasota, Florida, native, Dr. Bisogno earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Exceptional Student Education from Florida State University and her Ph.D. in Leadership and Education from Barry University, where she received the 2021 Distinguished Alumni Award for Collaborative Service.
Professionally, Dr. Bisogno serves as the Associate Dean of the College of Education at Northeastern State University and is a Professor of Special Education. She also serves as the CAEP Coordinator for NSU’s College of Education, Treasurer of the Oklahoma Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, and represents the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation on the National Council for the Advancement of Educator Ethics.
Before transitioning to higher education, Dr. Bisogno taught students with disabilities for nearly a decade in Florida and Alabama. Today, she continues to advocate for educator preparation, mentorship, and educational excellence.
Outside of her professional career, Dr. Bisogno is an active community volunteer, serving on the Jenks Parent Legislative Advocacy Committee and as a dedicated PTA member at her daughter Maggie’s school. She and her husband, Alec, a teacher and coach in Jenks, recently celebrated ten years of marriage.
As Rotary President, Dr. Bisogno looks forward to leading a year of meaningful service, collaboration, and community impact while advancing Rotary’s mission of Service Above Self.

Today marked an important day for the Chickasaw Nation. Governor Bill Anoatubby delivered his farewell address after 40-years of service leading the Chickasaw people. He officially stepped down at 12:00pm today and Chris Anoatubby took the oath of office as the new Governor. Expansion of Chickasaw health care, educational grants, early childcare centers, and development of business ventures to improve the quality of life for tribal members is his legacy. Northeastern State University and the College of Extended Learning extends congratulations to the Chickasaw Nation.
