Another successful CERT Camp completed at the Broken Arrow Campus. Each year there is a waiting list for this camp for students all around green country. Happy birthday to Dr. Eloy Chavez, Dean of the College of Extended Learning at Northeastern State University. Staff members and his family had the opportunity to celebrate today and express our gratitude for his service. The highlight was a gigantic birthday card, signed by many of the students attending summer camps under CEL at the Broken Arrow Campus.

Northeastern State University, College of Extended Learning is hosting the CERT Summer Camp for high school students at the Broken Arrow Campus. This program provides training on the topics of CPR, First Aid, tourniquet applications, water and gas main shut off, and other vital skills in order for citizens to be prepared and not be scared during emergencies. The registration link for CERT and many other summer camps at NSU is provided below.

Dr. Rebekah Doyle oversees the program and Volunteer Laura Weaver is the lead instructor. Broken Arrow Fire Department Captain John Cockrell volunteered his time today to instruct on first aid operations.

In observance of Memorial Day, Northeastern State University campuses are closed today, Monday, May 25, as we remember and honor those who have served.

Northeastern State University announces 2026 Model the Way Award recipients Northeastern State University has named the four people chosen for the 2026 President’s “Model the Way” Award.

Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation Rapid DNA Program Supervisor Beth Deen was interviewed by Instructor Brandon Berryhill concerning the deployment of Rapid DNA testing equipment in Oklahoma. This technology allows investigators to conduct presumptive tests on DNA samples to assist with ongoing investigations within 90 minutes. Supervisor Deen expounded on her career path as a science student into the world of forensics. The interview will be available for Criminal Justice students at Northeastern State University.

Supervisor Beth Dean has a B.S. of Chemistry, B.S. of Biology from the University of Oklahoma and a M.S. in Forensic Science/Molecular Biology from the University of Central Oklahoma.

From Sunday, May 10 to Saturday, May 16, 2026, Northeastern State University Police Department joins the nation in recognizing the courage, sacrifice, and dedication of law enforcement officers everywhere.

Since 1962, when President John F. Kennedy established National Police Week, communities across the country have come together to honor those who have given their lives in the line of duty, as well as those who serve tirelessly every day to protect and serve.

While many of the key events, including the Candlelight Vigil and the Peace Officers Memorial Service, are centered in Washington, D.C., we take this time to reflect on the brave men and women who uphold safety and justice in our own communities.

National Police Week is a time of solemn remembrance and heartfelt appreciation. Behind every badge is a story of service, sacrifice, and family. We are proud to stand with our officers and honor their commitment to safeguarding our campus, our students, and our community.
