Tracking on horseback requires a different skillset than searching on foot. Spotting subtle clues from an elevated position on horseback can prove more challenging.

However, major action indicators like sign in riverbeds, track traps, and blazes can be more easily spotted from the saddle. This can help close the time and distance gap when trying to follow a trail. And of course, horses are crucial assets in search and rescue operations, allowing us to cover more ground when lives are on the line.

Horses are great for noise making and can project the voices of rescuers in SAR. Of course they need to be a controlled asset by a ground tracking team so as not to destroy the track line.
