Farmer Josh and I had the pleasure of traveling to Costa Rica last week with 6 of my students, and some of their family members. Some of our highlights:

One student had his first flight ever with us, and earned his wings!

We visited Tortuguero, and felt like we were in an Avatar movie because the flora and fauna is so lush and surreal.

One of my students brought 70lbs of school supplies, and $500 to GIFT to a local school in Tortuguero. They used the money for microphones and speakers -a PA system we just take for granted! Another student brought bags of candy to hand out to the kids. They swarmed her, and were so excited for an American treat! It was such a precious gesture, and an incredible blessing to be a part of both of these girls' acts of generosity.

We went on the longest and most difficult rocky, hilly, and beautiful "4 mile" bike ride in Arenal. (Actually 14 miles, and worth every inch!)

We went to a ranch in Rincón de la Vieja where we ziplined, did a 14 hanging-bridge excursion, rode horses, went to a hot spring and had an amazing dinner all on the ranch.

We whitewater rafted (class 2-4). I don't want to say I conquered a fear, but I had great shipmates that helped me through some sketchy areas, and I thoroughly enjoyed the ride!

We went to La Playa Hermosa for the prettiest bay beach setting, and a pizza party because, honesty, none of us wanted rice and beans again. 😉

Our travel companions were amazing. So flexible, fun, positive, & excited for every adventure! The Costa Rican people were inviting and kind. We had great interactions with the people, everywhere we went.

I'm so happy for the wonderful experience, but also happy to be home. People joke with me about living so simply, but after visiting a developing country again, it really opens my eyes to how much we really have, and reinforces a need for me to slow down, be appreciative, generous, and kind to everyone.

Special thank you to everybody who helped these BHS Travel Club students get to Costa Rica! Whether you supported them financially, participated in fundraisers, chaperoned, or sent them with encouragement and well wishes, I genuinely appreciate you giving them your best. We had an amazing time, good weather, safe travel, and healthy minds and bodies for 10 days. We all got home at about 4am this morning.

❤️ ¡Pura Vida! 💙

The next Travel Club Trip will be in 2028, and is open to BHS students.

The last day of school is always a celebration of our year together at BHS, Brodhead School District! We had games outside, in the gym, and in the library. We had a movie, crafts & art studio. Some kids went fishing & some walked 3 miles for ice cream! It was a wonderful ending to a great year!

Hey BHS students, a reminder, Chucheria La Chispita will be at school tomorrow, and be set up behind my room. Students in all sessions are invited to come back for a treat!!

Also, if you're planning to walk to Tastee Creme, during 2nd session, PLEASE bring a FULL water bottle and exact change (including a tip).

Spanish students spent a couple days learning the process of making Cascarones, and the traditions associated with them throughout history.

Today we celebrated our last Book Club by sharing what we learned and following the tradition of cracking the cascarones on our buddies for good luck.

Thank you to the teachers who participated in Book Club once a month with us this semester. It was really neat to see bonds form between the HS & MS students, and to see all of them grow & share in literacy! 📚

Fun mini field trip/working lunch with Spanish 2 today. They wrote stories this week to turn into movies, and needed a restaurant & park setting, so we walked to Chucheria La Chispita and Veteran's Park to eat, play, and film their movies. Can't wait to see all the cinematic effects and great acting next week!! ;) Thinking some Oscars might be earned...

The Cinco de mayo tradition here in Brodhead is for Spanish 3 & 4 students to teach a lesson and play some fun games with the 2nd grade class. Today we learned about the flag, map, some special Mexican symbols, colores, numbers, shapes, body parts, and how to play with pirinolas. We also had a special treat from Jorge, who brought in home made arroz con leche to share with everyone.

When AI is fun.... During class work time, this student found 3 frogs, and they stayed with her the whole hour. I love bringing our learning outdoors!! Now we have new characters to add to our stories!
