🌟 Future Educator in Action! 🌟

Izard County STEM High School junior Evan Cole recently had the opportunity to attend the Show Me Sparks: 2026 Missouri Elementary Math Conference as a student in the IC STEM Pre-Educator Pathway!

This marked an exciting milestone for Evan—his first professional conference as a Pre-Educator Pathway student! 🍎📚

Throughout the conference, Evan gained valuable knowledge, connected with the world of education outside the classroom, and attended several professional learning sessions, including a panel discussion focused on overcoming barriers in teaching mathematics.

Experiences like this give our students an early look at their future careers while allowing them to learn alongside professionals already working in the field. We are proud of Evan for taking advantage of this opportunity and excited to see where his journey in education takes him!

🐾We have a HERO among us! 🐾

This morning, Izard County School District bus driver Mr. Mike Haney found himself in the right place at the right time. When he came upon a vehicle fire, Mr. Haney jumped into action and extinguished the fire before emergency crews arrived—helping limit the damage and potentially saving lives.

We are incredibly proud to have someone like Mr. Haney as part of our Cougar family. His quick thinking, courage, and willingness to help without hesitation are a wonderful example of what it means to serve others.

☀️ AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM FIRST WEEK = COMPLETE FUN! 😎

Our Afterschool Cougars have been busy this week—and they’ve been beating this incredible heat in style with some super awesome sunglasses! 😎☀️

But the real excitement has been inside! Students spent their first week exploring and rotating through our club options, trying new things, discovering new interests, and completing interest surveys to help us find the clubs that are the best fit for them.

And tomorrow is the BIG DAY… 🎉 Our first round of club assignments will be announced!

Just look at some of what our students have been exploring:

🥽 Technology — VR headsets, coding & 3D printing
🍳 Life Skills — cooking & practical hands-on learning
🔎 Critical Thinking — forensics, strategy & problem solving
🎭 Creative & Performing Arts — music, drama & performance
🛠️ Maker Lab — a full STEM room ready for designing, building and creating—including our brand-new Chomp Saws!
⚽ Sports — featuring our new gaga ball pit, soccer goals & pickleball sets

And this is just the beginning!

One of our biggest goals is to make afterschool a place where students can discover something they love, learn something new, build skills, and have FUN while doing it. 💡🧠🎨🏃

We can’t wait to see what our Cougars create, perform, investigate, build, cook, code, and accomplish this year! 💙🐾

🎶 BIG NEWS FOR COUGAR NATION! 🎶

Congratulations to Izard County High School junior Gage Nielsen on being selected to the National FFA Band!

This is an incredible honor, with only approximately 80–90 FFA members from across the nation selected each year to participate.

Gage will have the opportunity to represent Izard County, our FFA chapter, and the state of Arkansas while performing alongside some of the most talented student musicians from across the country at the National FFA Convention & Expo! 🎺

We are incredibly proud of Gage for earning this opportunity and can't wait to see him take the national stage!

We have updated pickup locations and times for the Horseshoe Bend After School Program route!

We’re excited to see enrollment continue to grow! As more students join the program, these locations and times may need to be adjusted just a bit—but don’t worry, we will always keep families well-informed of any changes.

Please take a look at the updated route information and make note of your pickup location and time. 🚌

If you’ve been in the drop-off or pick-up lines or spent any time on our Elementary or Preschool campuses, you might have noticed a new face! 👮‍♂️🐾

We’re excited to officially welcome David Brantley, our new School Resource Officer for the Elementary and Preschool campuses, to Cougar Nation!

Officer David brings 22 years of experience with the Florida Highway Patrol, where he served as a state trooper and received extensive training in public safety. He also has experience working with the State of Arkansas Department of Children and Family Services, giving him a unique background in both public safety and working with children and families.

In this new role, Officer David is looking forward to shifting his focus from enforcement to prevention, guidance, and building positive relationships. His goal is to help create a safe, secure, and supportive school environment through positive interactions with our students and collaboration with parents and staff.

We’re excited to have Officer Brantley as part of our school family and look forward to seeing him build relationships with our youngest Cougars and their families!

If you see him around campus or in the drop-off/pickup line, be sure to say hello and help us give Officer David a big Cougar Nation welcome! 🖤🤍🐾
