ICC's Emergency Preparedness and Criminal Justice programs invite the community to attend our 4th annual 9/11 Tribute, beginning at 9:15 AM on Wednesday. Air Evac and Survival Flight will once again land their helicopters, Izard County Judge will read the proclamation, and students will climb the stairs. Additionally, Vital Link Ambulance will be present, along with representatives from the Office of Emergency Management and 11 Izard county fire departments.

DON'T DO IT!

It's almost the time of year when school buses will start picking up and dropping off our kids. We wanted to take a moment and remind you of the law regarding passing a stopped school bus while loading or unloading children.

Arkansas code annotated 27-51-1004 states when a school bus stops and displays its alternating red warning lights for the purpose of loading or unloading passengers, every operator of a motor vehicle or motorcycle meeting or overtaking the school bus from any direction shall bring the motor vehicle or motorcycle to a complete stop not less than 30 feet before reaching the school bus. This included any roadway, public or private.

If you do and are caught, you could face up to a $2500 fine, 40 hours of community service, and a suspension of your driver’s license from 21 days up to 1 year if you are found guilty in court.

Over the past couple of weeks, our CSI students have been honing their skills in impression collection, focusing on both foot and tire impressions. Utilizing a shoebox method, they meticulously cast footprints, experimenting with various soil types to observe their impact on the quality of the cast. Despite the challenges posed by loose, sandy soil, they managed to achieve impressive detail in their footprints.

Their journey took an unexpected turn when their first attempt at casting a tire track ended in disappointment. Undeterred, they regrouped for a second attempt, this time as a class. After locating a tire track on campus, they cast it with cautious optimism. However, their hopes were dashed when the cast began to fall apart upon lifting, leaving them with a broken impression.

Refusing to be discouraged, they resolved to learn from their mistakes and try again. With determination and teamwork, they brainstormed a solution to repair the broken cast, recognizing the importance of perseverance in real-world scenarios where there are no second chances.

Their efforts paid off when they successfully restored the impression, and with renewed confidence, they returned to the parking lot to compare tire tracks. With keen observation and deductive reasoning, they quickly identified a suspect vehicle.

Their investigation led them to a surprising revelation – the suspect was none other than a fellow student. With the culprit identified, they proceeded with the interrogation, ultimately obtaining a confession.

Through this experience, they learned a valuable lesson – that failure is not the end, but rather an opportunity for growth and perseverance. Their dedication and resilience paid off, resulting in impressive casts and a successful resolution to the case.

As they reflect on their journey, they are reminded that with determination and teamwork, they can overcome any challenge that comes their way. And in the end, their hard work and perseverance paid off, yielding impressive results that speak volumes about their commitment to excellence in CSI.
