Commissioned by the BEST in Brockport Education Foundation, “In Shared Light” was composed by Kyle Peters for the Brockport High School Percussion Ensemble under the direction of Victoria Valente.

This work features six performers sharing a single marimba, supported by additional percussion parts that help bring the music to life. At its core, the piece is a celebration of togetherness and teamwork - qualities that are essential not only in music-making, but in life.

One of my greatest joys is making music with others, and it is deeply inspiring to see young musicians eager to collaborate and create as an ensemble. In Shared Light is built upon a simple, singable melody centered around the interval of a major sixth, symbolizing the six players performing together on one marimba.

The piece takes the listener on a dynamic journey, incorporating a driving drum interlude, energetic grooves, and a memorable melodic theme that reflects the spirit of unity and shared purpose.
