🔎 Did you know: This week, you’ll be able to get a view of Venus, Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars along one line in the night sky. Thanks to patented telescope technology, you might also get a bonus view with Uranus and Neptune.

Look up – you have a prime seat to a stellar sky show all month long!

This week, you’ll be able to get a view of four planets along one line in the night sky: Venus, Saturn, Jupiter, and Mars. Thanks to patented telescope technology, you might also get a bonus view with Uranus and Neptune.

Our friends at NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration have said planets always appear in a line in the sky, so the alignment itself isn’t unique, but it’s not often you get to see four or five at once.

The best time to look for the planets is the first couple hours after dark. That’s when Venus and Saturn will be in the southwest, Jupiter will be overhead and Mars will be in the east.

Last month, STEMisEd's Christine Lawlor-King – along with Kathy Hoppe and MTIPs Denise Heneggler and Tyler Dufrene – presented at the National Science Teaching Association Conference in New Orleans!

Over the course of the four-day conference, Christine Lawlor-King lead multiple presentations on invention and intellectual property education, covering topics including: using the SCAMPER method, empowering students through invention education, sharing United States Patent and Trademark Office resources, and an inventor trading card activity about Forrest Bird!

Rosalynn Moe, one of our Master Teacher of Invention and Intellectual Property Education Program (MTIP) educators, recently led a project-based learning (PBL) lesson that challenged 300 7th grade students to design and build their own arcade game! 🕹️ 👾

Rosalynn worked with seventh-grade Math, English Language Arts and Science teachers across California to enable students to design their own arcade game, while reaching local math, writing, and social justice education standards. Through the project, students learned how people have made an impact in their community, society, and world and were inspired to set their own goals to live a worthwhile life. Additionally, designing and creating an arcade game allowed the students to look at math from a perspective of careers in engineering, architecture and entrepreneurship.

As a culmination of the project, students visited Two Bit Circus, an innovative arcade in downtown Los Angeles, where they looked at the probability of winning games and created their own game design. What an engaging, ingenious way to bring PBL, invention, and transdisciplinary learning to students!
