Another CEE prayer request!
💛Our buddy Lucas💛
Please keep him in your prayers. He was in our class a few years ago and by the grace of God thankfully was able to go back to school! He is constantly being monitored and watched to see what treatment to try and when to change things up. Having a child with cancer is HARD! Knowing when to change treatments is SUPER HARD. Pray for his parents. They are absolutely amazing! Pray for him! Pray for his doctors to always know what to do. And pray these things for all our children. These are heavy things.
Lucas Update:
So, the best way to describe Lucas’s MRI results would be, yet again, a mixed bag. Honestly, the brain results look a little scary. There has been gradual growth in the brain, especially in the left ventricle lesion. His Oncologist is still wanting to call this “pseudo progression” due to the Proton Radiation and wants to continue to watch it. On top of that, the ventricle with the shunt is enlarged and the shunt is not in a good position. His oncologist will consult his neurosurgeon for how we should proceed. This is not causing Lucas to have any symptoms as of yet, so we’re hoping it stays that way. Since it’s not, the likelihood of the neurosurgeon wanting to go in to do surgery are slim because that would be a risky surgery. On a more positive note, the spine was stable, if not a little better. There is no evidence of any NEW Leptomeningeal metastasis in the spine and one of the nodules looked like it had minimally decreased in size. All of that to say, any decision Mikey and I make, along with his treatment team, makes us extremely nervous. If we treat, we run the risk of treating something that was actually “stable” and was just inflamed due to radiation. Also, if we start chemo and it stabilizes, we’ll never truly know if it was the chemo or the radiation. If we wait, we run the risk of not treating when we should have and this getting worse. These decisions are never easy, and we unfortunately can not predict the future. It’s a ‘damned if you do, damned if you don’t’ sort of thing. We have to trust his treatment team, who are the experts. I know they have his best interest in mind and also don’t make these decisions lightly.
