This week we are spotlighting our Outreach Team!

Meet Jim!

Jim joined the Mayhew team in 2009 and works with the Extenders. In the final two years of the program, Mayhew focuses on supporting the boys through high school graduation, assisting them in establishing goals for their lives beyond high school, brainstorming ways to overcome barriers to success, and emphasizing the importance of giving back to Mayhew and the broader community.

Jim said “ I consider myself very lucky to work for the Mayhew Program. I started working here in 2009 and have enjoyed every moment of it. Not too many people can say that they enjoy what they do for work. While I get to say that some days I get to fish all day, hike a mountain, eat pizza and chat with the boys or just the simple fact of getting to live on an island every summer. I have lived the vast majority of my life in the Granite State where I grew up enjoying all the mountains, lakes, and wildlife. I went to college at the New Hampshire Institute of Art where I majored in Fine Arts. Outside of Mayhew I pursue another passion as a landscape painter."

This week we are spotlighting our Outreach Team!

Meet Ian!

Ian joined the Mayhew team in the summer of 2025. He came to Mayhew after a long and fulfilling career in education, both in the classroom and in the great outdoors. He said “From early on, I discovered my passion for supporting young people—challenging them to reach beyond their limits and helping them uncover their true potential. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing a child’s eyes light up with pride when they succeed in a place where they once struggled. That joy is what draws me back to this work -day after day. My time at Mayhew has already given me the privilege of continuing to inspire and support boys across New Hampshire while sharing my own deep love for the outdoors.”

This week we are spotlighting our Outreach Team!

Meet Camron!

Cam has been a part of The Mayhew Program since 2015, when he first joined as a boy in the program. Cam said “Mayhew has played a major role in my life and growth. After completing my two summers on the island, I participated in Link-Up trips, worked in the kitchen, and later became a summer counselor on the island. I now serve as a Community Outreach Worker continuing my journey with the program year-round. What I value most about this work is the opportunity to give back to the program that helped shape me into who I am today. Mayhew challenged me to grow, step outside of my comfort zone, and become more confident in myself. Now, I hope to provide that same support and encouragement to the boys in the program so they can grow into the best versions of themselves.”

Cam enjoys playing volleyball, swimming, and spending time with friends through tabletop games.

This week we will be spotlighting our Outreach Workers!

Meet Marcus!

Marcus was a Mayhew boy and started the program in 2007. Marcus worked in the Mayhew kitchen during high school, joined the summer staff and then became full-time with Mayhew in 2019 as an Outreach Worker!

Marcus has a bachelor’s degree in culinary arts and business management, with a minor in Psychology.

Marcus said “All of this would not be possible without Mayhew. Coming here as a boy pushed me through boundaries that I felt I could never overcome. It has taught me many things about stepping out of my comfort zone and facing my fears. Mayhew taught me that anything is possible if you dig down for that last 20 percent. All the knowledge and wisdom Mayhew has given me has helped me push past high school, push past my associates, and challenge myself with a four-year college experience and degree. The support that Mayhew gave me is what I hope to pay forward in my role."

Mayhew believes in boys, so they believe in themselves.

Special Delivery from Amazon! Yesterday, alumni Matt B walked into the office with a huge smile declaring he was a proud Mayhew boy as he delivered some packages.

Matt was part of the Locomotive and Peace Makers cabin group. Matt was also a member of the Outer Circle and worked in the Mayhew kitchen during high school!

We love seeing and hearing from our alumni!

Mayhew challenges and helps at-risk New Hampshire boys to believe in themselves, work well with others, and find their best. It is the only all-boys program in the state that combines school-year mentoring and a residential summer program for at-risk boys, tuition-free, through high school graduation.
