I have the wonderful opportunity to start working with Haylan as a new cyclist. He joined our mountain bike team and quickly became known as the kid who was always smiling. No matter how hard we made practice or how many trees he crashed into, Haylan was always smiling. It was very obvious after his first year on our team that he had some natural talent as a cyclist. Haylan tried some other disciplines and quickly found success on the road and dirt. He was a prime example of the type of athlete we try to create with our team environment. We offered and encouraged him to try all types of riding and he really found his passion. He was a great role model to the younger kids on the team and a great leader for all. The above strava image is just a small part of how Haylan loved everything about bikes. He was determined to get the KOM in front of our house and just a few weeks ago finally got it! The only comforting thing about Haylan no longer being with us is the fact he was a fellow Believer. Knowing he gets to stand on the ultimate podium at least offers some comfort to this tragedy.
