Our 5th graders put the Scientific Method to work in a hands-on Skittles: Mass & Amount Lab!
Students investigated just how consistent Skittles packages really are by:
⚖️ Measuring the actual mass of each package
🍬 Counting the total number of Skittles in each package
📊 Calculating averages and comparing their results to the company’s stated amounts
🧠 Analyzing differences and considering why they occurred
💡 Developing and testing a hypothesis using real data
This activity was a great way for students to see that science isn’t just about finding an answer, it’s about asking questions, collecting evidence, analyzing data, and drawing conclusions!
