At Job Corps Civilian Conservation Centers, students can pursue Forestry Conservation and Firefighting or Advanced Fire Management training, where they learn how to control wildfires, respond to emergencies and provide critical on-the-ground support.

Job Corps programs are for people ages 16-24

Students explored other pathways for training in the trades at Columbia Basin Job Corps. Community Relations Liaison Susan Mann shared stories of graduates who took this debt-free route into fields such as IT and the skilled trades, immediately earning salaries exceeding $100,000. This piqued the interest of SkillSource students. Job Corps programs are for people ages 16-24 — Mann encouraged people to apply up to the day before their 25th birthday — and while programs can last two years, many students complete their certifications in as little as ten months.

We told an entire generation that skipping college meant failing at life.

So they took out $50,000 in loans. Got degrees in fields with no jobs. Moved back home at 25.
And somehow that's the responsible path.

Meanwhile the trades are screaming for workers, paying six figures, with zero debt attached.

My Job Corps kids figure this out faster than most college graduates ever do. They skip the four-year detour and go straight to building a real life.

College isn't bad. But pretending it's the only path worth respecting has done serious damage to a whole generation.

The debt is real. The jobs aren't always.
