🤸♂️ What looks like play is actually purposeful, individualized therapy!
🔸 Building block towers helps target problem-solving, motor planning, and engagement with others. It also creates opportunities to practice emotional regulation when the tower falls and doesn't go as planned.
🔸 Moving blocks in the swing provides "heavy work," a type of proprioceptive input that helps the body understand where it is in space and can support regulation, attention, and participation. The weighted vest adds additional proprioceptive input while crawling and moving.
🔸 Crawling through the tunnel helps strengthen the shoulders, elbows, wrists, and core, building the stability needed for skills like coloring, writing, dressing, and other daily activities.
One of the guiding principles in OT is: "Proximal stability before distal mobility." A strong and stable core creates the foundation for efficient hand use and fine motor skills.
At Blossom, every activity is carefully selected based on each child's individual goals. While it may look like play, our therapists are intentionally targeting the foundational skills children need to succeed in everyday life!
