Say hello to Ms. Emma Sammoury! Ms. Sammoury was born and raised in Colorado and is a recent graduate of the University of Colorado Boulder. She earned a degree in History, minoring in Political Science and Dance. She was an assistant dance teacher for six years, and has been teaching dance at a local dance studio for four years where she serves as co-director of the local chapter of National Honors Society for Dance and the Arts.
As the oldest of five children in a homeschooled family, Ms. Sammoury helped in the education of four younger siblings across all subjects and multiple grade levels. She knew from a young age that she loved history and loved teaching others. She volunteers with several children’s programs, including at her church. She is fluent in English and French, and is learning four additional languages: American Sign Language, Italian, Latin, and Russian. In her free time, she enjoys reading, dancing, sewing, crocheting, and listening to music.
Ms. Sammoury is thrilled to be part of the Ascent Classical Academy community! She will be teaching 7th and 8th grade History in conjunction with aiding the upper school staff as a Teacher’s Assistant. Welcome, Ms. Sammoury!

We would like to welcome Mrs. Sydney Hyland to the Ascent Co-curricular team! Mrs. Hyland was born and raised in Colorado Springs, where her own classical K–12 education first sparked her lifelong appreciation for the arts. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, where her work centered on the relationship between people, connection, and the natural world. After graduating, Sydney built her career in nonprofit marketing and social media management before joining Ascent. She brings both creativity and strategy to her work, with a passion for storytelling and meaningful communication.
Outside of work, Sydney can usually be found with a good book, exploring new artistic mediums, or creating something by hand. She also loves spending time outdoors, especially camping with her husband, Nick, and their dog, Millie.
Welcome, Mrs. Hyland!

Join us in welcoming Mr. Harrison Pike to our school! Mr. Pike is excited to join Ascent as an upper school Humanities teacher, where he will teach sixth grade Latin, Literature, and History, as well as tenth grade Literature.
Born and raised in Georgia, Harrison experienced firsthand the lasting value of the classical tradition, enjoying a classical education throughout middle school and high school. He then graduated from Samford University, where he studied journalism and Biblical and Religious studies. While at Samford, he studied Ancient Greek and was part of the classical-focused University Fellows program. After graduating, Harrison worked in journalism and then AI development before coming to Ascent.
Outside of school, he enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, Laura Lee, and their curious beagle puppy, Diana. He also enjoys all things Denver sports, while remaining faithful to his hometown Atlanta teams.
Welcome to Ascent, Mr. Pike!

Give a warm Ascent welcome to Mr. Blake Clawson! Mr. Clawson is thrilled to be joining the Ascent team as the upper school music and choir teacher!
A Washington native, he moved to Colorado in 2022 to complete graduate studies at the University of Colorado Boulder in both composition and conducting. He is an active member of the Colorado choral community and loves fostering creativity, joy, and connection in choral ensembles. While teaching at the K-12 level is new for Blake, he has greatly enjoyed directing ensembles and teaching core music courses.
In their free time, he and his wife enjoy skiing, hiking, camping, birding, and brewing specialty coffee at home. Blake is excited to connect with Ascent students and families and to create new opportunities for students to grow as musicians.
Welcome, Mr. Clawson!

Join us in welcoming Mrs. Natalie Adam to our faculty! She will be joining the Ascent community as the new 3rd grade teacher! Teaching has been her dream since she was a young girl, and she is so grateful to begin this new chapter after 26 years in education. Her journey has included teaching 2nd and 3rd grade in inner-city Phoenix for eight years, where she met her husband, Mike, who was also a teacher; tutoring English in Africa while their family lived there for ten years; teaching at homeschool enrichment programs, and homeschooling her two boys here in Colorado.
She and her husband have been married for many years and have two wonderful sons: Caleb is a sophomore at Grand Canyon University, and Joshua will be a 9th grader at Ascent this fall.
When Mrs. Adam is not in the classroom, you'll usually find her spending time with her family, reading, putting together puzzles, hiking, or cuddling with her sweet one-eyed orange kitty, Hobbes. She can't wait to get to know her students and to partner with families to make this a joyful and memorable year of learning!
Welcome to Ascent, Mrs. Adam!

A lot of elementary students are spending their school year on busywork or experimental content, while the great books that once formed young minds are no longer even on their classroom shelf.
At Ascent Classical Academy, we still believe some things are best taught the old-fashioned way. Our students learn phonics rather than sight words, handwriting rather than keyboards, and timeless virtues rather than trending social media content.
Only a few seats remain in grades 1-3!
