I’ve been quiet here, in part because I’ve been prioritizing rest. Most of the time, I genuinely enjoy a harder movement practice, like a run or a strength training session. Other times, I don’t have the energy to get off the couch. (Lately, it’s a lot more of the latter.)
If you’re feeling unmotivated, restless, or even cold, more yang activities might be the move for you today. Maybe you go for a walk/run/hike, lift some weights, or move through a vinyasa flow.
Or maybe you’re overwhelmed, overworked, and exhausted. Maybe your body craves a nap, a massage, or a hot bath. All that matters is that you hear what your body is telling you and respond to that. Rest is just as critical as movement, and it isn’t something to be earned - you inherently deserve it.
The most important thing to remember is that you can make a different choice tomorrow. It’s great to have a schedule and a plan, but our bodies are a lot more nuanced and will let us know what’s right and when.
Honor your natural cycles and rhythms. Find activities - active and restful - that you and your body both love. Move when it’s right, meditate when it’s right, rest when it’s right - for YOU.
