Friday’s sparring seminar showed that a lot more goes into controlling a match than just being faster or throwing more techniques.

Master Freeman broke down some of the fundamentals that make a huge difference: managing distance, recognizing timing, creating openings, and learning when to attack instead of just reacting.

Lots of good work, plenty of rounds, and definitely a few laughs mixed in too. 😂🥋

Great seminar and a lot for everyone to take back into training.

FRIDAY NIGHT HIGH RANK COMPETITION 🥋🔥

Fall Nationals got rolling Friday night with our high ranks hitting the floor.
Forms, sparring, some tough divisions, and a whole lot of action from start to finish.

Our Freedom Martial Arts crew came ready to compete, and just as importantly, everyone was moving from ring to ring, cheering, coaching, and backing each other up all night.

A really fun way to start the competition weekend.

FALL NATIONALS ARE UNDERWAY 🥋🔥

We kicked off the weekend yesterday with High Rank Testing, and it was a great way to get things started.

We had members of our Freedom Martial Arts team out on the floor testing, putting everything they’ve been working on into action and handling the pressure that comes with a big Nationals weekend.

There was a lot of focus, a lot of work, and a lot happening before competition even officially got rolling.

A strong start to Fall Nationals and plenty more to come.

📚 September Word of the Month: Responsibility

Responsibility isn't about being perfect.
It's about showing up prepared, following through on your commitments, and taking ownership of your choices.

This month, our students will be challenged to:
🥋 Come to class ready to learn.
🎒 Take care of their uniform and equipment.
💪 Give their best effort, even when something feels difficult.
⭐ Own their actions and learn from mistakes.

These are habits that build strong students, confident leaders, and responsible young adults.

What responsibility is your child taking on this school year?

Responsibility isn't something kids suddenly have one day.

It's built through the little choices they make every day.

Packing their own bag.
Owning a mistake.
Following through on a commitment.
Helping without being asked.

This month's blog explores how small habits shape confident, dependable kids both on and off the mat.

One last hurrah for summer ☀️

We had food.
We had games.
We handed out our On the Rise Sparring Series awards.
And then everyone apparently decided the only reasonable way to end summer was to absolutely soak each other with water guns. 😂 💦

No one was safe.
Some people were way too prepared.
A few grudges may have been formed.
Honestly, exactly how summer should end.

Thanks to everyone who came out and made it such a fun day.

At the beginning of the month, we introduced the word Respect in all our classes.

Over the past few weeks, we've seen students...
👏 Encourage a classmate after a tough drill.
👏 Wait patiently for their turn.
👏 Accept corrections with a positive attitude.
👏 Help clean up without being asked.
👏 Cheer for each other's successes.

Those moments may not earn a new belt, but they're some of the biggest victories we celebrate.

Character is built one small choice at a time.

Thank you to all of our students and families for making Respect Month such a success.
📖 We shared more of what we learned this month in our latest blog:

Last week's challenge wasn't about who was the strongest.

It was about who could encourage their partner to keep going.

Respect means celebrating someone else's success, offering encouragement when things get tough, and remembering that we're stronger together than we are alone.
Those are lessons our students can use for the rest of their lives.

Who is someone that always encouraged you growing up? Give them a shout-out below.

One of the first things visitors notice when they walk into our studio is how students stand at attention before class begins.

It isn't about standing perfectly still.

It's about showing respect for the instructor, your classmates, and yourself by being ready to learn.

Those simple habits often become the foundation for success outside the studio, too.
