What an incredible evening at Digital Goodness: Being a Good Neighbor Online! 🌐✨🫶🏻

In celebration of Good Neighbor Day (an official national and state official), our community came together Bridgewater State University for an evening filled with connection and meaningful intergenerational dialogue. Seeing BSU students from the Psychology Club sharing conversations with members of Senior College was a powerful reminder of how much we can learn from one another across generations.

Dr. Megan McCoy gave a presentation that inspired all of us to reflect on our digital behavior and practice more kindness, empathy, and "digital goodness" in our online lives. We were also honored to hear from President Clark, who gave an inspiring talk after a wonderfully warm introduction by Dr. Caroline Stanley (Professor of Psychology and Senior College Learning Access & Equity Fellow).

Beyond the great discussions, the heart of the evening was the overwhelming generosity of everyone who attended. Together, we collected a massive donation of new school supplies for the Bridgewater State University, Maxwell Library School Supplies for U program! Library Dean Cynthia Svoboda was deeply moved by the outpouring of support and shared just how much of a difference these supplies will make in the day-to-day lives of our students. 📚✏️

Thank you to everyone who registered, attended, spoke, and donated. You truly showed what it means to be a good neighbor—both online and off.

The Election Season: Reflections on negative campaigning and the upcoming U.S. mid-term elections by Senior College instructor BSU Professor Emeritus of Political Science Dr. Michael Kryzanek.

The United States constitution gives the states the power to set the “Times, Places and Manner” for holding congressional elections (every two years) and presidential and state constitutional office elections (every four years). Exciting news at the Bridgewater Public Library 📸✨

We were thrilled to celebrate a major technology upgrade in the Flora T. Little Room a few weeks ago! This new tech is a fantastic investment by BSU in a space that will benefit both Senior College and groups throughout the Town of Bridgewater. The new technology includes 4 display screens, a podium with a microphone and built in speakers making this space much more accessible.

A huge thank you to our partners at the Bridgewater Public Library, Director Jed Phillips and BSU President Clark, Dean David Crane, VP Steve Zuromski, Jennifer Reid, Director of Senior College and the BSU IT team for making this upgrade possible!

From launching Senior College in this room back in 2019 with less than 100 members to growing to over 670 members across the region today, we are so grateful to the Bridgewater community for being such strong champions of lifelong learning!

Senior College members toured the historic Ames Estate Mansion in North Easton earlier this week, exploring all the estate and learning so much about the family's deep local roots 🪏

They learned that Oliver Ames was the 35th Governor of Massachusetts, whose family built a massive shovel manufacturing empire. Oliver’s son (Oakes Ames) was a Harvard botany professor and Blanche Ames, Oakes’s wife was an artist, inventor, and suffragist who held patents for everything from WWII aircraft traps to lumber cutters and water filtration systems!

The group is already planning its next outing: a visit to the "Shovel Museum" at the Arnold B. Tofias Industrial Archives to see the Ames Company's historic tool collection.

In person events like these are open exclusively to Senior College members 🎟️

Dr. Jennifer Reid, Director of Senior College, and Dr. Caroline Stanley, Professor of Psychology and Senior College Learning Access & Equity Advisor, were honored to attend the grand reopening of The Center at Olney/Department of Human Services this morning.

Congratulations to the dedicated staff and community supporters whose hard work brought this beautiful renovation to life. The refreshed and expanded space will provide wonderful opportunities for connection, learning, and engagement for local residents.

We're excited to see all that The Center at Olney will offer the community and are already imagining possibilities for future Senior College programming. Stay tuned! 📚✨

A fantastic morning of 🀄️Mahjong🀄️
We had a great time kicking off our NEW course today with the wonderful team from 4 Blondes Mahjong. We love bringing new games to our members—there’s nothing better than gathering around the table to learn a new skill and keep our minds sharp together. A huge thank you to the 4 Blondes team for a great first session!

The Moakley Center was buzzing today as over 175 Senior College members kicked off our new semester in 3 different in person courses! 🌟

We had a packed house of 105 members exploring Unladylike: Women Who Refuse to Behave with beloved instructor Renee Somers and we had a full room ready to jam in Cindy Weatherby’s Introduction to Guitar!

We also had over 50 members gather for the first of a special two-part series on Churchill’s Secret Armies. A special thank you to instructor David Barrett, a UK native who was just six years old living in London when WWII ended, for bringing such powerful living history to our community.

Thank you to all who attended—we can't wait for the rest of the semester!
